Kam Fung

I first started visiting the Kam Fung when I worked nearby in Chancery Lane about eight years ago, and have been a regular ever since, introducing several groups of friends and work colleagues to the place. The restaurant isn't much to look at from the outside and is probably due a refurbishment internally, but where it counts - in quality of food and service - it's an absolute gem. The fact that the restaurant can be full on a Tuesday evening, whilst other restaurants in the area have maybe one or two tables taken speaks volumes.
As several people have said the sizzling dishes and aromatic duck are particularly good, and the Nasi Goreng and Kung Po Chilli Chicken also deserve a special mention. The portions are very generous, but in the event of suffering from eyes-bigger-than-stomache syndrome the (very friendly) staff will tell you that you're ordering too much. Nevertheless, I've still come away on several occasions with a doggie-bag.
I've visited a lot of Chinese restaurants in London, and this is by far the best I've come across for food, service and value for money. Of course it's not Michelin-star cuisine and you should not go in expecting that, but as somewhere to have an informal relaxed meal with friends after a few drinks (perhaps in the excellent Cittie of Yorke around the corner on High Holborn), it's hard to beat.
