Authentic chinese cuisine much favoured by chinese students in the nearby London universities. The service is always impeccable and homely, the portions are amazing (with them more than willing in helping us doggy pack the leftovers), and the fresh and delightful soup just seals the deal for us.

always leaving the place brimming with satisfaction from a good nights dinner

Maybe we went on the wrong day. My experiences are certainly not the same as some of the other reviewers however.

The two of us went last night and had their super set menu at £18.50 each and a bottle of white house wine. The only thing which I could say I enjoyed was the first up - the soup.

The second course looked as though it had been sitting around for a long time, it was dry and very uninviting.

When the 'crispy' duck arrived it was already cut into little pieces and presented on a plate with miserable dried out cucumbers around. It made my heart sink.

With the main course we ate a little before giving up. It was mostly tasteless and nothing looked remotely fresh. The wine was not bad and the china tea was at least hot.

If I hadn't been with my daughter and wishing to enjoy her company I would certainly have sent most of this straight back to the kitchen.

Based on this visit I would not recommend Kam Fung. The total cost for the meal and 'obligatory' service charge was £58.85 which I very much resented.

I have been using this restaurent since the 80's and the service, food and some of the staff have never changed. Its superb, the sizzing szechuan prawns taste the same as they did 25 years ago. Huge portions and a friendly atmosphere, no frills decor ads to the charm of the place.

Thanks to London-eating for alerting me to this place - it's everything the positive reviewers here say it is, and it deserves recommendation, for it's a little off the busier streets and not therefore the sort of place you'd otherwise find. The decor is simple but very clean and the staff no-nonsense efficient. The food is simply the best Chinese I've had in London - nowhere in Chinatown can touch it. Routine appetisers and starters such as prawn crackers or spring rolls are larger and fresher than you'll find elsewhere. I had squid and my partner seafood noodles and both were exceptionally good. One word of warning - though even that's a positive - the main courses are enormous. If you have a starter you might well want to share a main, esp if you have a vegetable side dish; conversely, if you're having a main, you might want to skip a big starter. They really are substantial. (And it was a credit to the staff that they warned us we had ordered enough...) That said, everyone around us was having their food doggy-bagged, so that's clearly an option.

I think it is an amazing place! The restaurant is very simple, but the atmosphere is relaxed and the staff super friendly... nothing like some notorious places in China town. Most importantly, the food is superb and very reasonably priced! I recommend the Chinese duck for starters, followed up by pork belly and fried baby squid. Yammy!!

Favourite chinese restaurant, expensive but very worth it!!!!

Normally I get the mixed h'orderves as my started and then the lobster main course - which isn't on the menu, but can be requested if you book a table the day before. Atmosphere is okay, but what the hell the food is great! Make your own atmosphere with the people you are with!!!

This is my favourite chinese in London. I have been introduced to it my by ex-boyfriend 12 years ago who assured me that it was the best Chinese in London. 12 years on I stil believe this is ther case. I now live in the coutry but if I fancy good chinese will drive 40 min to Holborn to have dinner there. Hot&sour soup is the best (and I tried ot in many places!). Ask the staff what is not on the menu and they will come up with some great dishes, I also like to peep at what Chinese visitors eat there and ask for the same. Sizes are very generous and tasty!

The staff is bery friendly, great with kids as well. Love the place!
