TimeOut

TimeOut - 3/5

Thursday, October 15, 2009 - Run by a former manager of Tayyabs, this new spot offers the staples - smoky grills and Punjabi curries. But it also delivers earthy vegetarian dishes made with care and consideration...Crushed potatoes, cooked with tender cauliflower florets, tomatoes, ginger and fresh coriander was comfort cooking at its best. Just as enjoyable was tarka dal, finished with a tumble of fried onions and warming cumin; it demonstrated a deliciously nutty and smoky character.

Sunday, October 11, 2009 - Sometimes the thought of those queues is off-putting. I crave a Tayyabs hit without the hassle...Spiced, minced lamb Seekh kebabs were fresh and juicy, the crisp grilled exterior giving way to something altogether more intense inside...A butter chicken masala had a deep and intense sauce, soft with dairy fats, sprightly with fresh green herbs, loaded with meat which hadn't seized up in the process. Alongside this, a bowl of pale yellow dhal with a baby aubergine which had been roasted to baby-food softness was a welcome calming influence.

I was there with my colleagues on a busy Friday afternoon. First impression was disappointing (interior), and the waiter was rushed off his feet. To further add to the disappointment, they had no more Lamb Chops!!! However, despite the dissapointment the service was super quick, the food was just spot on, and the bill was so low, I thought they made a mistake! £50 for five of us!! This place beats Tayyabs largely due to effeciency and the food is awesome! Depsite the lack of lamb chops, we left feeling satisfied. I had lamb bhindi (okra), highly reccomend this dish for okra lovers. Despite the shortcomings, the food, delivery and price makes it all up. I would highly reccomend this place if you're looking for no nonsense, good quality food and I will def be going back.

Firstly i would like to congratulate you for winning the Best Curry awards! Well done!

I would say this is the best Grill food i have ever had. Since the opening of the restaurant me and my family have visited the restaurant many times. Last night i came there and i can still literally taste the food. Well done i think the food and service is fantastic. I hope you go a very long way and win plenty of other awards.

The open plan kitchen is great to see and everything looks clean and well organised and busy. There is a brisk turnover of food and tables. Right from the first taste, everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered two different chicken dishes, Karahi chicken and chana chicken with some vegetable dishes also. Everything had depth of flavour, even the Zeera rice (rice with cumin seeds) was great. I don't think I have had Punjabi style food like this before and it was fantastic.

Service was quick and efficient. Jug of water provided at the table. Bring your own beer if you want. Excellent value for money too.

Very impressed! Looking forward to going back.

I’m a massive fan of Tayyabs, but really dislike the long waiting lines and was recommended this place by a friend as an alternative. Having said that, we still had to wait for a table, but it wasn’t a long wait.

The place is smaller than Tayyabs and the service was brisk and efficient as you’d expect. We ordered all the staples we normally get at Tayyabs such as mixed grills with kebabs, lamb chops and chicken. We also had dry meat curries, masala lamb chops, karahi dhal and chicken curries, washing it all down with mango lassi!

Overall most of the food are pretty much on par with Tayyabs, although I think the grill lamb chop (my favorite) is probably slightly better (maybe 5%) at Tayyabs, because it was grilled slightly longer and has more of that charcoal taste. However, taking into account the difference in waiting time between the 2 places, I’d rather come to Needoo.

Needoo's is fantastic! We came across it after fleeing the queue at Tayyab's. Try the saag gosht with buttered parantha - perfect. The service was reasonable. Good value for money.

I had a great meal from Needoo. The lamb chops rivalled Tayyabs. I think i will use it regularly in the future as it means I can avoid the chaos of Tayyabs but still have the same quality of food.

i read somewhere that the owner of this place worked round the corner at tayyabs for over 14 years. well, it definitely shows. they seem to be definitely competing and for the most part their grilled meats etc are of a similarly high standard. other dishes were just ok but would return to try more.

service was a bit slow grumpy on our visit but overall this is a decent alternative if you don't fancy queuing for tayyabs!

Went to Needoo Grill on a recommendation from a friend and hearing tha it was opened by former Tayyabs manager, so had to be good, funny that its literally 1 minute around the corner from Tayyabs.

We went as a group of 7, complimentary poppadums with variosu chutneys as standard were served, ordered mixed grill consisting of tender lamb chops marinated in tandoori masala yet not too overpowering, the chicken tikka was marinated just right and grilled nicely wasnt too chewy. The sheek kebabs were delectable very soft and spicy. Had these with some buttered naan breads, very fragrant. Also decided to try some karahi keema with peas, which was freshly prepared for us and could tell by the way it tasted actually was very nice indeed.

overall excellent food, pleasant chic decor, very attentive and welcoming waiting service and price? we paid about £40 for all of us which is a steal for some really good food.

Just ate here this evening after getting a recommendation from a friend. The food is excellent and just as tasty as tayyabs around the corner - the paneer tikka starter and dry meat main course were both really good and the chickpea and cucumber salad that was brought to our table with the pappadums was delicious and a really nice touch. The staff were really friendly, attentive and polite and we spent about £10 a head, so it's really good value too. Needoo's clearly takes the quality of its food seriously, I will definitely be going there again and would highly recommend.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 - We're downstairs in the basement, and it's smoky. Like someone has been grilling lamb chops downstairs or something. The place is packed, which isn't helping. It's smoky and HOT...The lamp chops are anemic. Part of me has to assume they get their meat from the same place as Tayyabs, but something's just not right. If I'd never been to the Big T, maybe this would be okay. But it's not. The seekh kebabs are good. And the aubergine daal is nice...it's my favorite dish of the night. But overall...I am left wanting...wanting Tayyabs.

Friday, March 05, 2010 - Needoo Grill's seek kebabs were as juicy and spicy as they are at Tayyabs, but Needoo's lamb chops varied from tough to top-notch. Paneer was wonderfully smoky and spicy...Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Our servers were a lot less harried than they are at Tayyabs, and they took the time to make recommendations and answer questions. The lamb chops might not be as consistently good as at Tayyabs, but everything else was comparable. And you definitely can't beat Needoo's prices.

Cheese and Biscuits

Cheese and Biscuits - 8/10

Tuesday, December 01, 2009 - he mixed grill certainly looked the part, and the seekh kebabs, at the very least, were as good as any I've tried, moist and lean and packing a decent chilli punch. But the chicken tikka pieces, though spiced perfectly well, were rather dry, and the lamb chops were not in the same league as the Other Place at all, being too sweet and sloppy and missing an extra layer of hot spices. I still wolfed it all down, of course, Tayyabs on a bad day being at least a thousand times better than most other ways to spend your food money in London, but you can clearly see the difference thirty-odd years experience can make.
