Thursday, January 07, 2010 - For mains, we skipped over the burgers and 'po boys' (meat sandwiches that are first and foremost lard-tastic, augmented by lashings of maple syrup, steak sauce and BBQ sauce), and headed straight for the seafood gumbo and BBQ ribs. At 12 quid each, these dishes were stonking value. My gumbo was a taste-party that included shrimps, mussels, swordfish, tomatoes, okra, beans and pepper and rice. I only got through a quarter of it. BBQ ribs were the size of a burly man's arm and served with coleslaw. They were sweet and sticky and smokey, and a joy to sink your teeth into.

This is one unique place to chillax after a hard week in the office, great selection of drinks especially the range of bourbons and whiskey.

The music, not strictly blues, however the music policy provides a good mix of bands.

The food is a real let down though, this is the second time I've eaten at this estabilishment, with really high hopes. With the prices they are charging, the food is poor, it looks and feels cheap. It's the second time I've been ripped off.

Nice bar design, and a really relaxing atmosphere.

What a great venue for the blues scene. The lighting, atmosphere and sound is great. Came here with my girlfriend on Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised to see what had been made of the old Oh Bar!

However we can't say much about the dining experience though, my girlfriend ordered the seafood jambalaya. It was dry, the fish over cooked. My chicken burger seemed stale with fries cooked until they were cardboard. On the up side the buffalo wings were good though.

Would definitely recommend this venue for a good night out, but shoddy food is a let down.

The Blues Kitchen is a lovely venue with great music, a real shame about the food though which was a real let down.

Burger bun was as dry as a bone.......not to mention no flavour or taste what so ever to the beef....it seemed like some meat thrown together in a bun. Basic things like the chips, were overcooled and saturated with oil. The steak sandwich......I won't even bother.........

I was so excited when this bar/restaurant first opened as it looked adorable and is so convenient. I've gone three times, hoping that with time the tweaks would be worked out, but now a year later ....I can say there is no hope.

We came in on a Sunday hung over and looking for a delicious brunch. A waitress immediately acknowledged that she was new and I am quite understanding of beginners, but our experience was entirely unexcusable. When we first arrived, we were told that we could be seated immediately, and I called our other friends who were holding our spot in line at Camden Bar & Kitchen. Once they arrived, we were told it would actually take 20 minutes to be seated but at this point we had lost our spot in line! Once we were finally seated, we had to ask over 5 times for menus and one of the waitresses immediately responded "you know its not my fault this isn't my table". We also had to ask over 10 times for water, but it didn't come until our meal was almost half done. Our bloody mary's came after our meal (again after +5 asks) and were undrinkable. I think they may have used V8 and were truly disgusting!! The OJ was from concentrate too....The food was sub-par at best - the only thing edible was the fries. The pancakes required a saw to cut and the hash browns had an odd flavour none of us could even identify. After another 30 minutes of attempting to get the bill, we were all tempted to just dine and dash....

I would highly suggest avoiding and finding anywhere else in camden to chow down.

A cosy place with comfortable booths and good music. However the food we had was a disappointment. My companion had the quesadilla which cost £8 and was very thin, a surprisingly small portion especially for an American restaurant! My burger was good but the chips and onion rings were poor quality. We looked at the food on the tables aorund us and it didn't appear appetising... M&S prices but Iceland quality.

Lets be clear. It's not a restaurant. It's a loud, brash bar with barely passable blues music and TGI Fridays food - both in style and standard. Yeah, there are lots of bourbons and the cocktails are pretty good, but it's not like you can sit and enjoy a Bulleit over ice when the place is packed full of questionable Camdenites and the charmless staff won't let you sit down unless you're eating some of their dire 'soul food'.

Blues bars should be chilled out and friendly. This is place is too noisy, stressed and strict. By all means, go for drinks, preferably when you're already well on your way to being wasted, then move on elsewhere. I'm not sure what would improve this place but it's no better than when it was the Oh! Bar and that's really tragic.

My partner and I recently went along to The Blues Kitchen, where we were greeted by very friendly staff and seated straight away. The waitress brought over our menus and took our drinks order. We were very impressed by the interesting variety of Southern American food on the menu.

Whilst we looked over the menu we also admired the interior of the place, very interesting quirky decorations and objects creating a truly south American feel and atmosphere.

We decided to order the Buffalo Wings and Corn Fritters for starters to share between us. The Wings came with a great blue cheese sauce and were very tasty. For main course I had steak, which was cooked to my liking and was very tasty, maybe could have done with some kind of southern bbq sauce or something to go with the rest of the southern style, but I quite like steak by its self anyway. My partner had the Blues Kitchen Gumbo, the fish, mussels etc were cooked very well and was tasty.

We didn't have room for dessert so we headed over to the bar to have another drink. The bar had a very extensive list of Bourbons, Ryes and Tennessee whiskeys. These were all displayed in a very nice way lit up by blue and soft yellow lights. The cocktail list was geared towards the range of Whiskey and Bourbons.

As we sat at the bar a blues band started playing on the stage at the back. The sound was great and not too loud that you couldn't talk. They really created a fun friendly musical atmosphere. We will definitely come back for more!

An exceptional night out. I came here for my birthday with 7 friends and even before our visit the staff were so helpful with planning the evening and our booking that I couldn't wait to try out the Blues Kitchen.

On the night itself, a very busy Saturday, the welcome was warm and friendly, the service was excellent and the food was outstanding. A fabulous range of bourbons was on offer alongside the great food for very reasonable prices.

Add to that 2 fantastic bands to entertain us and a great dj spinning a fabulous variety oif blues, northern soul, rockabilly and retro music until 3am, all for free!

It was an exceptional night out, we all enjoyed it and we can't wait to tell all our friends and visit again!

Can I just say thank you Blues Kitchen for an amazing evening on Tuesday. I was so pleasantly suprised with the warm atmosphere, fantastic sevice(thanks Amy you were brilliant))and great value.Ill be be back for the brilliantly crafted cocktails-ask for the one with chilli in it and you will be thirsty for more . I was fortunate enough to be there on a night for "241"offer-Dangerous when cocktails are this delicious!

The soul food menu was such good value that we ordered several dishes- most memorable are the blackened shrimp and artichoke and parmesan tortilla dip.

Greedily I also worked my way through the juicy burger.

Blues kitchen thank you again- i will most definately be back as I didnt stay on to experience one of the bands- a result of too many cocktails and too full a stomach!!

I loved this place - really cool atmosphere, a good mix of couples and groups of friends, really nice decor - not your typical camden style - this place is really chilled but super cool. Staff were super friendly and accommodating but not intrusive or pretentious. Bourbon cocktails were lush - and not just fancy shots in a glass full of ice - they were yummy....try the apple one its yummy!

We had sweetcorn fritters and blackened shrimp to start - really nice - never thought sweetcorn could taste that good! And ribs were seriously huge but really tender. Its not fine dining and caviar buts its a great mix of traditional dishes and good honest wholesome food - and very generous portions! we hung out at our table for a good hour or so after eating with cocktails and live music too.

The bourbon menu was immense - 50 choices or something... there were a few old london gents who were sitting with a good 18 yr old bourbon watching the live rhythm n blues sitting next to a table of young friends.... great mix of people.

I'm definitely going again, to check out some of the live bands and more traditional dishes...would definitely recommend a good meal with good service and great atmosphere.
