Marina O'Loughlin - 3/5

Wednesday, March 31, 2010 - The menu might offer a bunch of familiar suspects - well-executed patatas bravas, tortilla, gambas al ajillo - but there's enough of a twist, especially on the tapas del dia menu, to make this a little more interesting than your usual tapas joint. There's mulchy, rich morcilla in crisp, brik pastry; empanadas stuffed with tuna; and good seafood, including octopus a la plancha and calamares. Churros, freshly fried, sweet and slightly salty doughnut strips with a little pot of spiced, dark chocolate for dunking, are worth crossing town for. What really lifts Pinchito above the herd are superb cocktails.

This was our second visit to Pinchito but will probably be our last. The first time we went the food and service were excellent, but this time we found the service to be slow and the food, although tasty, was incredibly salty (and this is from someone who is a total salt fiend!). The best part of the meal was the churros - hot, sugary and fresh with a gorgeous warm chocolate orange dipping sauce. Yum.

Unfortunately we wouldn't return as the food is quite expensive, so not worth the risk of being salted to death.

I finally tried Pinchito WC1. I have walked past this place many times and I had always wanted to try it. I won't be going back. The service was extremely slow. I actually had to go up to the bar to order drinks, as the waiting staff seemed to be ignoring us completely. Only half of the food we ordered arrived, and we had to remind the staff what we had ordered in the first place, because they claimed to have lost the piece of paper they had written our order on. The food, when it finally arrived, was OK - certainly nothing spectacular. At £25 a head I would expect more. At least half of our party had to pop into "Chicken Cottage" on the way home because they were still hungry. There are much better tapas places to go to nearby, such as Barrica on Goodge Street, or, a little further away, the wonderful Ibérica on Great Portland Street. A very disappointing evening.

I visited this restaurant with my boyfriend and overall we found the evening very pleasant. The food was delivered quickly and well presented and the staff were very friendly ensuring that we were satisfied. The only problem was that we had to wait quite a while to be seated however, that was generally expected. We enjoyed our meal and would definately recommend it to others.

Yikes is all I can say. Not good at all - the place used to be a Yo Sushi, and they don't really appear to have gone to much trouble to transform it all, so the restaurant doesn't have a great atmosphere or feel.

Which wouldn't be a problem if the food was brilliant - but sadly, it's not. Pork Belly with mango and black olive sounds great, but the meat was hopelessly dry and overcooked; the bread was bog standard baguettes (!) or cut from a supermarket loaf while the sauces - particularly the alioli - tasted like they came from a packet.

Given the poor standard of the food and the fact there's amazing quality tapas places such as Fino, Salt Yard and Barrica nearby and there's no reason to head to Pinchito.

When we first arrived - we were worried that the place had been booked out for a Christmas party. It turns out it was just that busy. We were offered a spot a the bar were you can eat or wait for a table to become availble. We were so comfortable at the bar decided to eat there. Great attentive service considering how busy it was, delicious food , cocktails and yummy churros. My favourite savory dish was the hanger steak with paprika alioli and at £6 it was a steal. We felt like we were in Barcelona. Great music, fun service natural service and lashing of mahou beer! Really good experience and value! Fantastico!

I ate at Pinchito recently. The food is reasonable, portions are small as expected but at £5+ for every dish the bill soon adds up. The food itself was of a decent quality, but nothing outstanding.

What didn't impress me was the feeling of being squeezed for every last penny - ordering a lemonade got me a mixer sized bottle, and the staff didn't seem to want to acknowledge that this wasn't reasonable at the prices they charge. A later order of their "freshly home made lemonade" got me a glass of crushed ice with a very small amount of lemonade. Unimpressive, and again the staff seemed to think this was reasonable when I complained.

It wasn't an awful experience, but at £25 a head I won't be hurrying back.

We have eaten at Pinchito Tapas in Old Street several times and have always had an excellent time . Last night we found our selves hungry in Tottenham Court Road and decided to give the new one ago.

The place is brighter and more designed than the intimate Old Street Branch but with the same urban funky vibe with all the action based around the bar. The main menu was the same as the one in Old Street and there was a less extensive list of tapas del dia but the very attentive waiter pointed us in the direction of new tapas. The new tapas we tried were Pork Cheeks with pumpkin, (which looked uninspiring but tasted amazing) grilled mackerel with warm potato salad (very generous portions and yummy too) and bikini with ceps and truffle oil (which are little toasted triangle sandwich, apparently a bar staple in Spain and lovely at Pinchito). We also enjoyed favorites such as padron peppers, the amazing marinated olives and the plate of Serrano jamon served with thin slices of toasted baguette and grated tomato. All great. We were recommened a new cocktail called a Pisco Sour which is like a normal whiskey sour but with sherry which was gorgeous. Churros ( like strips of doughnuts) with hot thick chocolate finished us off!

Our waiter was helpful and friendly, the place was buzzy and the bill below £60 for the two of us including a bottle of wine . I think this is a great addition to the central food scene and continuation of the original Pinchito restaurant. .

Pig Pig's Corner

Pig Pig's Corner - 6.5/10

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 - 'Pork Belly with mango and black olive'. The PigPig absolutely loved this dish with the super crunchy crackling and pork belly strips. It did go pretty well with the mango sauce/jam thingy but there weren't enough olives to make a significant impact. Their version of the traditional pulpo a la gallegas was a tad underwhelming, partly because the chorizos was missing from our dish! The octopus was really nice and soft but the mash was a bit underseasoned...Flavourwise Pinchito Tapas is actually pretty good and certainly most of the dishes we sampled were tasty.

Dos Hermanos

Dos Hermanos

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - It's decor and approach will be instantly familiar to anyone who has visited their first branch near Old Street or the now defunct PinXto People in Brighton. The offering is as much about the impressive cocktails created by co-owner Toby Garcia, as it is about the food...Rabas, that Cantabrian weekend favourite of squid, sliced thinly to look like tails (hence the name) and deep-fried was greasy, chewy and burdened with too fierce hit of paprika. Croquettes of 'mixed meat' were better, well fried and with a dense filling, which would have gone perfectly with a glass of fino or a cocktail.
