Times Online

Giles Coren - 7/10

Saturday, April 17, 2010 - We had ham croquetas, pimientos de Padron (not salty enough), fried artichokes, sauteed sweetbreads with beans, a really good escalivada (which is piles of grilled strips of red pepper and aubergine and onions in oil), and then some exceptionally good, rich veal cheeks braised in pedro ximenez, that dark, treacly sherry in which you could really taste the treacliness, and then plates of cheese, manchego and garrotxa, with glasses of oloroso. You know, I think Barrica is maybe something to write home about, after all.

Metro

Marina O'Loughlin - 3/5

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - There are 20-odd sherries - we have the rare and lovely palo cortado - and a vast selection of wines from the length of Spain. The 'plato del dia' is Asturia's beloved bean and pork fest, fabada, here translated as a sort of floury sub-cassoulet with entirely the wrong beans. The quality of the cured meats is good - paprika-rich sobrasada, acorn-fed Iberico jamon - but portions are weeny...Barrica is beautifully laid-back, welcoming you for simply beer and salted almonds or a full blowout. I'm coming back.

Went for a friend's birthday, food was good although not as exciting as Salt Yard next door. Great wine too.

However evening was ruined by shockingly rude service at the end when trying to pay.

Won't recommend for that reason.

Very impressive wine and sherry list. However, service poor, and the price was quite unbelievable for the very little amount of food we had.

Good to try, may pop back for a wine, but left hungry and broke!

ate there last night, there are still a number of small touches they could make to improve the place; food was mixed, generally too oily and often sweet, but we might have caught the place on an off night; atmosphere could also be imporved by turning down the lighting, but they have more authenticity than Salt Yard a few doors away and a great wine list, with a sensible apporach to trying new wines. worth re-visiting, esp to see if the place can learn some lessons from stars like Moro and Cigala.

Good service, impressive wine list - and really good value if you're ordering by the glass. Slightly stingy portions - even considering that this is tapas - but in general, dishes were interesting and well done. The only notable exceptions were octopus which was overly salty and rather disappointing and scallops - which at £4 each weren't anything special and didn't warrant the price tag.

Excellent staff and food. Would highly recommend this for anyone who likes tapas. Feels just like a bar in Spain!

....likewise as per some of the other reviewers here - I don't normally bother with doing this sort of thing but I ate there just before Christmas and loved it.

I work in the area and eat out a lot for work and socially - the food is amazing, fresh, interesting and well executed...more often than not in the Charlotte St area you get the impression that you're just lining the pockets of somebody who 'owns' rather than 'runs' the place but here it's different.

As ever the Iberico Ham is expensive (I know the margins they make on it are only similar to other food on mthe menu) but if you don't want to pay it, don't order it. Meal for 4 people with a few lagers and a bottle of wine about £120 including service....and I always over order at places like this.....represents fantastic value when you consider Fino's is within spitting distance and double the price - okay, this place isn't as nice inside but the food is comparible.

They're keen on offal here and salt cod - great for me, not so great for others.

The staff seem to have a genuine passion for what they do and care that you enjoy the experience....can't recommend the place highly enough, my only worry is that it'll be tricky to get a table for lunch sooner rather than later.

Go try it...the guy's there deserve your custom...!

Dont normally bother with reviews, too lazy! But we (my friends and i, 3 of us) had such a lovely relaxed meal. The Manager, whose name I forget, spanish. chose all of our tapas and every thing completed the other. Totally wonderful, and such good attention to service. If you want tapas in London in a place where they really do seem to care then visit this place.

Have now been to Barrica three times, for dinner twice and lunch once. Absolutely wonderful food, friendly service, a great wine list - especially the sherries - and a lovely dining room.

Have taken various friends and colleagues there and all have really enjoyed it and I work in the food world, so they're a picky bunch! Dishes that must be tried are the spicy carrots, beetroot and almond salad and the anchovies. All extremely delicious. Portions are on the generous side and excellent value.

My only disappointment is that it's always been quite empty in there, which is such a shame as they really deserve to do well.

Loved Barrica. Quite unique to have such a good selection of sherries and actually a really good way to complement tapas (which I hadn't realised before).

Will be back.

Erm, yeah. Some seriously 'enthusiastic' reviews here. Well, I went. It was fine. It was tapas in Fitzrovia, you know the drill. Not as expensive as Fino / Barrafina, but not in the same league as Salt Yard / Dehesa, in my humble opinion. Good wine list, service attentive if a little bemused at times, and the food? It was nice. Couldn't fault it but wasn't overwhelmed. Good quality ingredients though. They won't have trouble filling tables in this area but this does make the place very noisy with the hard surfaces and loud media types.

Monday, January 25, 2010 - Let me skip right to the punch. My food at Barrica was good. But my experience with their service was pretty terrible...It was Spanish. I like ham. But the croquetas were anemic looking. Tiny. Miserable. And the patatas bravas were just so gunky...Time went by. Still no wine. At this point, the food was gone and we don't want the wine anymore. That's just not acceptable.

Monday, December 14, 2009 - The first impressions were good. The omelette (tortilla) was cut into bite-size rhombuses, and they were mushy potato rich and well seasoned, appetitising. We noted the paltry croquetas portions, but were roundly impressed (well I was anyway) with the warmth of the creamy centre...The crabs on toast were pretty good and a little different from the British recipes which I am used to. The citrus zing was clearly missing, and in it's place a subdued fishiness lingered on my buds.

Dos Hermanos

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - There is an extensive wine list and a wide selection of pretty standard tapas. I chose two dishes by which the intentions and abilities of any Spanish restaurant can be discerned. More croquetta of Jamon were tiny and had been cooked for too long on the outside. The insides, however, were good, creamy and flecked with decent amounts of jamon...The ham at Barrica had been cut by machine. Although the fat began to melt to a lovely sheen, as it should, it was not enough to disguise the fact that the meat had begun to dry out and lose the delicate flavour of acorns for which it is so famous.
