Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - There are 20-odd sherries - we have the rare and lovely palo cortado - and a vast selection of wines from the length of Spain. The 'plato del dia' is Asturia's beloved bean and pork fest, fabada, here translated as a sort of floury sub-cassoulet with entirely the wrong beans. The quality of the cured meats is good - paprika-rich sobrasada, acorn-fed Iberico jamon - but portions are weeny...Barrica is beautifully laid-back, welcoming you for simply beer and salted almonds or a full blowout. I'm coming back.

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 - Top billing goes to the cured meats, with a plate of jamon iberico de bellota. Cut to the thickness of pencil shavings, this cured pata negra ham had concentrated flavour, and was curiously gamy. Back on more familiar territory are dishes such as char-grilled baby leeks with romesco sauce, and Padron peppers...Furnished with wooden furniture and lots of bare surfaces, Barrica's not the place for a quiet meal; but if you like great Spanish wines and good food, add this one to your hit-list.

Food is good but portions are really small and in the end, the bill is expensive. Service is allright but we made a reservation for 3, and even with that, they didn't have enough tables and had to eat in a table made for 2 people...

Wine was really nice. Croquetas and ham are the best, the rest is fine. I am sure you can find another tapas restaurant in London with better price, more quantities and nearly the same food quality.

Disappointing. Saturday night and full - but there did not seem enough staff to cope. The food was ok but not nearly as good as Salt Yard next door and really pricey too. Too many other excellent places nearby to go back here again...

Well, the food is not too bad (though a lot worse than places half the price) and I suppose its central London but really we spent £120 for three people with a bottle of wine and left hungry and feeling very ripped off. We won't be going back. Do not have the jamon: its poor quality and the portion is so small you could inhale it. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Went for a friend's birthday, food was good although not as exciting as Salt Yard next door. Great wine too.

However evening was ruined by shockingly rude service at the end when trying to pay.

Won't recommend for that reason.

Very impressive wine and sherry list. However, service poor, and the price was quite unbelievable for the very little amount of food we had.

Good to try, may pop back for a wine, but left hungry and broke!

ate there last night, there are still a number of small touches they could make to improve the place; food was mixed, generally too oily and often sweet, but we might have caught the place on an off night; atmosphere could also be imporved by turning down the lighting, but they have more authenticity than Salt Yard a few doors away and a great wine list, with a sensible apporach to trying new wines. worth re-visiting, esp to see if the place can learn some lessons from stars like Moro and Cigala.

Good service, impressive wine list - and really good value if you're ordering by the glass. Slightly stingy portions - even considering that this is tapas - but in general, dishes were interesting and well done. The only notable exceptions were octopus which was overly salty and rather disappointing and scallops - which at £4 each weren't anything special and didn't warrant the price tag.

Monday, January 25, 2010 - Let me skip right to the punch. My food at Barrica was good. But my experience with their service was pretty terrible...It was Spanish. I like ham. But the croquetas were anemic looking. Tiny. Miserable. And the patatas bravas were just so gunky...Time went by. Still no wine. At this point, the food was gone and we don't want the wine anymore. That's just not acceptable.

Monday, December 14, 2009 - The first impressions were good. The omelette (tortilla) was cut into bite-size rhombuses, and they were mushy potato rich and well seasoned, appetitising. We noted the paltry croquetas portions, but were roundly impressed (well I was anyway) with the warmth of the creamy centre...The crabs on toast were pretty good and a little different from the British recipes which I am used to. The citrus zing was clearly missing, and in it's place a subdued fishiness lingered on my buds.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 - There is an extensive wine list and a wide selection of pretty standard tapas. I chose two dishes by which the intentions and abilities of any Spanish restaurant can be discerned. More croquetta of Jamon were tiny and had been cooked for too long on the outside. The insides, however, were good, creamy and flecked with decent amounts of jamon...The ham at Barrica had been cut by machine. Although the fat began to melt to a lovely sheen, as it should, it was not enough to disguise the fact that the meat had begun to dry out and lose the delicate flavour of acorns for which it is so famous.
