We ate at Kasturi on Tue 5th Jan 2010. I had high expectations after reading adverts about British curry awards and when we arrived there was nobody else in the resturant which made me a little dubious to start with. The food was terrible. A crab cake to start full of bones and microwaved lamb chops which said tikka masala on the menu but were much too hot for any tikka masala I've tasted. Then again two chicken curry dishes which I guess were also from the microwave. Generally the worst Indian food I've tasted in years. Then a food writer for a magazine or newspaper arrived and from what we could hear was being given free food and wine to write a praising article about the place. Really...If you want business word of mouth is truthfully the best advertisment. Never again. I read other reviews on this site and either we were really unlucky or they maybe have changed chefs!!!!

Excellent food. I've been to the Kasturi a few times over the past year and each time it has been brilliant. I'm a very experienced eater of Indian food and the Kasturi offers some of the best I have had anywhere. Especially notable are the lamb rogan josh and the Zeera chicken. Service is very good, although they often need reminding to get the bill! The poor comments below are very difficult to reconcile with my experiences here.

Having been regularly in the London City area most of my monthly trips to the UK I've been working my way through the many Indian restaurants nearby.
Tonight I stayed close to the Liverpool Street area and walked over to Aldgate High Street to Kasturi and was I ever pleasantly surprised.
Perhaps I've been jaded by the likes of The Painted Heron, Cinnamon Kitchen and M'Aida at offering an array of flavors, but Kasturi is right up there in the flavor, taste and difference departments. Between the very soft lamb chops and the well spiced, rich curried chicken dish I was really impressed. The aubergines and the creamy curry they were encased in, plus the very spicy chutney, well baked nan, and more made it great.
What's more the service was superb.
