This is a great sushi place - the quality is brilliant and by far the best place I have found so far in London. However the lady who seems to run it - with her husband, the sushi master - is SO UNBELIEVABLY RUDE to takeaway customers. She doesn't like you waiting - actually prefers you to wait outside, is dismissive and lacks courtesy. The days I get served by her sons are far preferable. If you can ignore bad service then I would recommend and if you're just going for takeaway the experience is ok, however if eating in - think twice.

Proper Japanese sushi at a sensible price. Ours was £20 per person similar to Japan prices.
I spend most of my life living in Japan and Makoto was recommended by a Japanese friend. It appears to be a family-run place with the master making the sushi and wife and son serving – all of them miserable and surly. Unlike any sushiya in Japan, there was no welcoming shout from any of the staff upon arrival. Just cold and unfriendly. We sat at the counter and, as is normal in Japan, I tried to engage the master in light conversation and order from him in Japanese but he was not interested in talking and only grunted for me to order from the waiter who then immediately passed my order to the master. Weird!
Several customers came in but were turned away very brusquely by the wife–short to the point of being rude. I can't see why they would ever come back. The jangling pop music from the speakers was torture – maybe that's why no-one smiles or talks. No hot hand towel was provided.
Good sushi and a clean loo but a miserable experience because of the staff. I have seen this at another West London (Ealing) sushiya which closed down some time ago.
Very few non-Japanese really know sushi or Japan. In Japan a sushi restaurant is wonderful food and great fun (and no music). Some Japanese who live in this country seem to pick up the worst of Western manners and think they can get away with it. They can't, and in spite of the good sushi we won't be going back to Makoto.

I have tried sushi in Japan many times, and this is the closest you can get.
Come here for sushi and sashimi. They are the best in London.
I don't rate tempura here. Set lunches are very convenient, but overall is very reasonably priced.
I come here at least twice a month, as I love Japanese food.

Makoto is my new favorite Sushi Bar in Chiswick,West of London.
I am Japanese and love sushi very much. We had 2 of "Tokujyo-sushi set" and 4peaces extra sushi and one beer and hot green tea.
It was only £40 for two of us. It was real Japanese sushi.
It's small Sushi Bar , 3 seat for front bar counter .3 seat for side bar counter. 4 small table for couples. Max only 12-14 I guess.might be need booking for weekend.
also many people coming for pick up a take away Sushi.
Makoto sushi bar does Tempura and other japanese food also.
I went Makoto 4 times in Last 2 months.
