what the critics say

This Is London

Thursday, May 27, 2010 - The Keralan beef mooli has soft, dry, long-cooked, crumbled, spiced beef, again with plenty of salad, including tomato, raita and a coconut salsa, fairly hot - although none of the tastes here have been over-fired, the Goan pork being the hottest...A sixth option as a special, Punjabi-spiced goat, was fantastic, the soft stewed meat mixed with lettuce, cucumber and tomato, plus pomegranate salsa - a really different taste, making a single roll into a memorable meal.

Sunday, January 10, 2010 - The Beef Mooli has braised beef so it doesn't put up a fight when you bite into it, just demurely melts away. The cucumber and coconut offsets the spices well, possibly just nudging the spice to the sideline. It's subtle...The Chicken Mooli has crunchy apple inside, which is great, as well as coriander and mint chutney. I long for a dusting of fresh green chilli inside, but as this is authentic who I am to complain? Finally and gloriously, asparagus, potato and tamarind mooli. This is the best of all, the soft potato and crunchy asparagus just perfect. Vegetarians rejoice, here is a snack you can really savour.

Really enjoyed the food - I had two mini moolis, pork and paneer. The paneer was nice but not spicy enough for my highly desensitised tastes. The pork mooli was absolutely delicious and I would have had a couple more if I was not filled up by the lassi and mojitos (guava is better than lychee). Next time I will be asking for the spiced up version, I think it's called Go Green or something.

Overall atmosphere was fabulous (I was there on a Monday) and I ended up staying longer (and drinking more alcohol) than I had planned to!

Went for what was supposed to be a quick bite before a night out in Soho. We landed up staying longer than anticipated - partly because their guava mohito's were far too good to stop at one. Also, the owner/founders were around and were very friendly - so got chatting with them.

I had the pork mooli - which was yumm. My husband had the beef mooli which he really enjoyed. Very nice vibe to the place, friendly staff and quality food.

Wow – this is a great new option for lunchtime and evening eating. They serve good quality, fresh and flavoursome food that you can grab in a hurry (still surprisingly hard to find in central London) or enjoy over a drink or two.

I loved the Goan Pork Mooli (pretty spicy, with an inspired scattering of pomegranate) and my veggie companion said that the Asparagus and Potato (milder, with a nice contrast between the soft potato and the crunchy asparagus) -was "yummi".

The portions are decent, the food is interesting and tasty, and the prices are honest – I’ll definitely be going back!

I went there with a couple of friends last Friday before seeing ‘2012’ at the cinema. Really loved the feel of the place: the food was great and the staff were friendly. I had a paneer and a pork mini mooli (which had a definite kick). Highly recommend it for a quick (and cheap!) bite in chilled surroundings before a fun night in Soho. Do not recommend 2012 (two-hour long disaster...)

I've been a couple of times and have tried a couple of flavours of the hot wraps ("Moolis"). I'd say - and I admit this may just be a symptom of lunch boredom - it's far better quality than the comparable alternatives.

It's very tasty, fresh stuff: the pork one's quite spicey and has pomegranate seeds in it, the beef one's got coconut in it, I think, among other things. They're substantial too - enough for lunch - and definitely better value than those poxy little hot wraps you get at Pret.

The other thing is they have booze there . . . and when I went the other evening after a lateish finish at work the atmosphere was actually quite good so I had a bottle of beer with my dinner.

I think this one is a bit different and certainly worth checking out.

Decent choice for lunch in Soho, especially if you're bored with Pret / EAT / etc.

The idea is good. They serve something that is between a wrap and a burrito, but quite healthy with fresh salad and nothing processed.

My chicken mooli was just ok. Looked tasty and had an unusual apple salad, but I'm not sure about the chutney and didn't find it spicy enough. It was cheap and filling though. I would go back and try the beef and pork which are apparently hotter.

Overall, a welcome addition to the Soho lunch scene.

A limited menu (which is always a good sign!) - but everything I had was excellent. At 5 quid for the lunch deal (a mooli + a packet of pappad bites + drink) it was also great value for money. My favourite was the pork mooli - spicy but not in the usual mounds-of-chilly way - much more subtle. Plus it contains fresh pomegranate so you get a wonderful mix of textures as well as flavours along the way. The mango lassi was delicious - with just a hint of ginger that prevents it from being sickly sweet like the usual lassi's at other Indian restaurants. Will be back for sure.

Quirky, cool and cheap. Fantastic food, and the option of having a mini mooli allows greater choice. It is indian but not indian. Will def go back. Only criticism is they are not open after midnight and don't do breakfasts.

Monday, March 15, 2010 - Mooli's is bright and fun and cheerful. So too are the staff, who applauded my 'advanced' selection of the mini goat mooli. Why goat is not more popular, I don't know...I round out my order with a pork mooli. The Food: I have no clue what was in the goat Mooli. Besides for the goat. But whatever it was, it was freaking delicious. The pork was good too, but simply not as delicious. (And it was a bit messier, which was no one's fault but mine.)

Wednesday, January 20, 2010 - The goat mooli. A wrapped wonder. Tender braised goat (for four hours), with spicy and smoky flavours, balanced with an acidic crunch from the chopped red onions, fresh tasting slices of tomato and wonderfully soft potatoes. I bloody love potatoes in sandwiches...The chicken mooli. Juicy chicken (leg/thigh rather than breast), lettuce, slices of apple (it works - adds a crunch and a refreshing apple taste) and raita. A great mooli if you have a low tolerance for spice...If you've not been yet, I urge you to visit. A great option at lunchtime - the lunch deal is one of the best bargains in town.

Wednesday, December 02, 2009 - The lassi was excellent stuff, creamy, thick and delicious tasting fresh and full of fruit. The foil twist containing the Mooli was of impressive proportions and opened to release a pleasing whiff of spices...What chicken there was, was moist and its spicing subtle. Perhaps a little too subtle and the killer was lost beneath the filler of a slightly incongruous salad containing lettuce and apple. Fortunately, they also offer complimentary tubs of sauces to spice up your meal and mine was much improved by the removal of some of the excess lettuce and apple.
