Pleasant surroundings in the Old Dairy and very polite, attentive service. Prices for enjoyable mushroom stroganoff and scallop dishes - plus a bottle of wine - were reasonable. I'd go back again for an informal, local meal.

My wife and I went to the Old Dairy for Sunday lunch today, having passed it often and wondered whether it was any good. We were braced for the all too common overpriced and disappointing 'gastropub' experience but hoped it might be the good local we were hoping for. It was, without any doubt, the latter.
The service, from the moment we entered the building, was friendly and professional. We both opted for the Sunday roast pork (we didn't have starters) which was generously proportioned and consisted of juicy, well seasoned meat and vegetables which were cooked to perfection - i.e. not overcooked. The Yorkshire pud was particularly good. There was a good choice of wine and beers and an impressive sounding Bloody Mary on the menu. For pud I had bread and butter pudding which was delicious and accompanied by a very tasty, freshly made custard. The coffee was excellent too. We ate in the dining room at the rear of the building which we found a pleasant and atmospheric place to sit, it was also well away from the area at the front where there was a TV showing the football so don't let that put you off. The bill came to £44.50 without service which we found very good value. We left a tip entirely at our own discretion - the chip and pin machine did not prompt us to leave any service at all. All in all we had an excellent experience. We will certainly be back.
