Excellent menu. Food very good. We found the restaurant manager extremely irritating. She would discipline young staff members in front of the customers even though they were doing a good job. The restaurant offers a promotion scheme whereby you can claim a free fish and chip meal after so many visits, Unfortunately the restaurant manager applies the rules herself and even if you have sufficient stamps on your card she will use her own version of the rules. She also has an anoying habit of kissing everyone when they arrive even if you don't want to be kissed.

Really great place! I have been going there for a few years because the fish is never greasy and always tastes perfect. Plenty of parking outside and always a quick service.

My only criticism is that they are not open on Mondays! Aside from this there literally is no reason not to eat here. I travel an extra 15mins in the car just to go here over places that are closer.

Went to McDermotts on Saturday evening for supper. The premises are divided into a restaurant with seating and a takeaway shop.

We arrived about 7.30 pm only to be told that the restaurant had run out of fish.

As we were leaving we noticed that the takeaway side was still serving so we were able to order two portions of haddock and chips to take away.

The fish and chips were good although it was difficult to eat them standing outside and we did not enjoy the experience.

The management were apologetic for having run out of fish and advised us that this was due to a spike in demand as they had thrown away 100 pieces the previous Saturday evening.

what the bloggers say

Dos Hermanos

Dos Hermanos

Monday, November 02, 2009 - The kitchen at McDermott's obviously knows its stuff as the frying was excellent. The batter crunched in an Heston-pleasing manner and the strata of pearly white Haddock flesh flaked satisfyingly, although just a tad softly...We were split over the chips. I liked their crunch but I suspect they weren't chip-shop style enough for HS...Service, was friendly and on-the-ball which is all you can ask for and they seemed genuinely pleased that we'd had a good time. Which was nice.
