what the critics say

Times Online

Giles Coren - 2.67/10

Saturday, March 06, 2010 - Esther had a lump of burrata on some chopped tomatoes, I had a dry melanzane parmigiana cut into a cylinder with a pastry shaper like some MasterChef horror of the Loyd Grossman era. Esther had a good risotto, I had a good pasta. I had a very good cup of coffee (so these particular Italians have mastered pasta and coffee - ring out the bells). With a bottle of 42 quid wine (probably the fourth cheapest on the list) and the pleasure of being treated like scum, the bill came to 135 quid. It was a goddam scandal.

Marina O'Loughlin - 2/5

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 - This is opulent, if you like a dish so rich it's the Trump of pastas, laden with so much cheese and cream that the renowned Chianina beef element is battered into submission...There are nods to Santi's stellar ex-bosses, like Ducasse favourite Acquerello, a rare, aged carnaroli rice used here in a luscious truffle cream risotto. And everywhere luxury ingredients: truffles; Gragnano pasta; that beef; beautiful, milky burrata cheese rather wasted on top of some pedestrian meatballs in tomato sauce.

I was recommended Babbo by a work college and decided to treat my mum to a special meal for mother’s day. After reading some reviews about Babbo I was getting worried that I would be ripped off, however it was worth every penny. The atmosphere was good, service was good and the food was unbelievable good. My mum who is very hard to please has requested we go back next year. So it’s a definite winner.

The food was slighly overcooked when it came i thought it should be a la dente, but pasta was soft and soggy. Waiter was helpful in recomending dishes. Attmosphere was very quiet but that could be because it was a Tuesday. Not much to go back for to be honest.

I have been to Babbo several times now for dinner and have enjoyed each time. The service, atmosphere and above all, the food is great. My wife and I ate there last night and we shared the pea soup, lasagna and the veal milanese and each dish was delicious. It knocks the socks off its surrounding competitors! Well done Babbo.
