Service is terrible. The waiters laugh among themselves but become surly the moment you approach them. The moment you finish your meal, they rush in to clear up - a not-too-subtle message to clear off. To cap it off, when the bill came, there were two lines of "Service charge not included" in bold. I'm adopting the policy of no tips unless service improves.

Food is so-so. I have eaten at Nyonya before and the Laksa I ordered seemed below par. Maybe it's the chef's off day.

my boyfriend lives in notting hill and i frequently have a take away or go here for dinner. the singapore laksa is as original as you will find it anyway in london. i used to live in hong kong and the laksa is exactly the same as my favourite place in hk...however, i have not tried anything else there! highly recommend if you want authenticity...

Nyonya is a difficult one, inhabiting a brilliant location just off Notting Hill Gate that bustles with life until the early hours it should be the perfect location for a Restaurant with wrap around views, but as the previous Italian Restaurant found when it closed, a great view doesn't guarantee the success of an establishment.

Because of the resteraunt's lack of space there is a very real sense of being involved, and it does bustle with a pleasant atmosphere, although the condensation on the windows on a cold day can be a tad off-putting! The staff a generally friendly, if a little disorganised, and the food is generally good with one or two exceptions, some of the sauces are occassionally greasy and a little palid, I'm not sure if this is due to a different shift of kitchen staff, but it really can let the place down.

Having said all that it's not a bad place, neither expensive or stuffy it's good for a quick lunch, but I'd think twice with the local variety of establishments about Dinner at Nyonya.

I've been there a few times and the food has always been great. However, the service is terrible - there was a group of us and the waitress told us off for ordering a little bit here and there. All we wanted was a few extra drinks and some side-dishes like rice! The manager was quite unhelpful as well so we refused to pay the service charge. A disappointing evening!

Seriously, don't be fooled by the pleasant surroundings or kind reviews, just don't go there.

One of the worst meals I've had in ages - curries which were supposed to be light were heavy, greasy and covered in the same nondescript sauce, the meat barely recognisable. The service was just as bad - when we found a hair in one of the meals there was no apology, just attitude before the item was begrudgingly removed from the bill.

A real disappointment - and it used to be so nice.

The service was terrible. I had a couple of guests over, and as I wasn't really hungry we ordered a starter and 2 dishes along with some drinks. They said they wouldn't serve us unless each person ordered atleast one dish. The manager was even ruder, and when we said people could order just a drink if they wished to at a restaurant and that we would find another restaurant just said ''fine'' and walked away. I've eaten here before and the food is good but such service is despicable.

I eat at Nyonya regularly as I am addicted to their Singapore Laksa. The best I have had outside Singapore or Malaysia. Lots of flavour. Took friends there who are resident in Kuala Lumpur and they found the food really authentic. Service is efficient and friendly and it is all very fairly priced. Although you have access to private tables upstairs, the atmosphere is much better downstairs. Perfect for a quick bite before or after a movie at the Gate.

We were from Penang and find the food very good and authentic. Service is excellent and because of its popularity space is a bit cramped. The fried Koay Teow is excellent, the fish curries extremely good (including the otak2), the lobak exactly like the famous ones in the best Penang hawker stalls. The kueh (Malaysian nyonya cakes) were very nice although on the small side. Their fixed price lunches were really value for money and as nice as their A La Carte menus. Highly recommended.

I have eaten there quite a few times and also organised a party for one of my friends (a group of 25 people) - the food is always good, served quickly and the staff are very friendly and attentive. I like the atmosphere in both rooms (ground floor and upper floor) - it is a nice relaxed place to eat and in a very convenient location.

Being familiar with Penang Nyonya cooking, my wife and I appreciate the authenticity of the flavours at Nyonya. The tau-yu-bak (braised pork in dark soy) is fantastic, you can't find that many other places in London. Very flavourful food, but best for those who already have a taste for this type of cooking.
