It was a wonderful bright Saturday morning, and we went to Moxton, Clapham South to get some fish for dinner tonight.
My partner and I headed down south to Tooting Bec to get some fresh vegetables and fruits. While we were wondering around Tooting Bec, I found this small Indian restaurant/cafe serving Dosa; Chennai Dosa. I have not had Dosa for years; I used to have Dosa quite frequently when I was in Malaysia. Told my partner, we have to go there.
Venue and atmosphere: I have never been to India, but the interior and the ambience of this place feels very Indian, with the Indian music from 60s on 70s on the background. The walls are covered with mirrors from half to the top. It looks more like cantina/cafe. The plates and used are all made from stainless steel.
On the table was a tray with cups and pot (filled with water all made of stainless steel. It is very traditional. I love it!
The menu: I fell in love with the menu, the dishes are very authentic and they have a huge variant of Dosa dishes. I know I had to have a Rawa Dosa. I ordered myself a Rawa Onion Dosa and cup of Indian Spiced Tea and a the Sambar Vadai. My parther decided to for the Masala Dosa, Mango Lassi and the Mutton Chukka
Spiced Indian Tea (Masala Tea) - The Masala Tea is served in the traditional Indian Tea cup. I wish i had my camera with me; I could have taken some photographs. However, the tea was lovely, milky and lightly spiced. It was a very small serving but it was well worth it!
Mutton Chukka - This dry mutton curry was cooked with onion, curry leaves, spice and vinegar. It was spicy; we ordered it spicy, you may opt to a milder option. It was very delicious, I loved it! The meat was so tender. We could have more.
Sambar Vadai - Vadai is a type of Indian fritter made from dal, lentil, gram flour or potato. The vadai was served in Sambar. A lentil based curry. I am not sure how to explain this but.. It was delicious!
The Dosas - It was as good as the ones I had in Malaysia. The dosa’s were serves with mint, tomato and coconut chutney. The Masala Dosa was served with a potato filling. We loved the Dosas. It was Yummy!
These are many other dishes we would like to try in the menu; everything looks so scrumptious.
I would definitely come here again; I had the best Indian I have eaten in London. It’s 100% better than Brick Lane and I am definitely not a fan of Brick Lane. I recommend this place to anyone who loves authentic Indian food.

We went to Chennai Dosa after being recommended by a Keralan friend. It was great! We ordered lots of dishes (making sure that we ordered South Indian dishes only) and everything was delicious. While it is not a fancy place, the restaurant was lively and had a good atmosphere. Lots of Indian families (probably 90% of the clientele) which has got to be a good sign. Good service, tasty food and incredibly cheap, not much more you can ask for. We shall definitely back!
NB. They don't serve alcohol and you cannot BYO but their delicious lassis make up for this!

Went to Chennai Dosa on the spur of the moment on a Friday night with friends. Not plush or smart but 3 out of 4 of us really enjoyed the meal. The waiter was really helpful in helping us choose what to eat and the service was courteous and friendly.
The bill for 4 with soft drinks came to £40. And we were stuffed.

Went with friends to Chennai Dosa (Southern Indian food) for a quick Sunday evening meal and I was incredibly impressed with the meal. The food is very authentic and different to the typical London curry restaurant. The Dosas were delicious and the bread was totally differrent to the generic naan that is usually offered. The staff were very attentive and the food came quickly and was very fresh. Walked away having eaten loads and paid 30 pounds for four of us. Great Value!!
