Matthew Norman - 8/10

Monday, May 02, 2011 - Although my friend was ambivalent about his braised shoulder of Middle White pork, finding it 'a bit confit style for my taste', he loved the cep mash served with it. My main course was cleverer, an impeccably fresh, grilled piece of that cheap and underrated fish the mackerel, with alfalfa sprouts and orange couscous in a soy and sesame oil dressing. I loathe couscous and would find a bowl of it awaiting me in Room 101 (if Ed Balls was unavailable), but this was sensational. So was a side order of truffle-infused fat chips, a very cute mingling of the ephemeral and the exotic.

David Sexton - 3/5

Thursday, September 16, 2010 - Diver scallops, truffled potato, raisin puree, tomato and basil was ornate in appearance but it came together in the mouth. Roast cod had been fiercely browned; the kale, usually a stringy waste of space, had been de-stalked, tenderised and crisped; the little gnocchi were cheesey yums, while the micro-pieces of black pudding made a surprisingly delicate turfish retort to the surf. Poached brill, white onion and tomato risotto, cockles and girolle mushrooms didn't work so well. The risotto was flavourful and rich, extra butter dashed in at the last minute, with just one intact cockle detectable.

Good but not quite as good as the reviews below.

The produce used is obviously very good but, some of the more complex attempts don't quite work, the mozarella starter (not the one shown on the website but with slivers of radish and tiny cauliflower..) was a failed experiment, textures don't work and flavours are pointlessly mismatched. The quality of the steak is excellent.

It's getting into the pricier part of town but there's so many restaurants around that I think they need to be careful. If my memory serves me correctly it looks like they've already put prices up (£30 p/p for cote de beouf on their website, £35 in store). Mark up on the wine seems a little excessive in places.

Service was good, food was good. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing especially right. I live close by but undecided if I'd go again, so many other good restaurants to choose from.

dinner last night was a pure delight. we were were looked after by a wonderful hostess and although the restaurant was full we did not feel as though we wanted for anything. I had heard a lot about the food and it did not disappoint. Organic home cured Salmon was sensational and Sea Bass, gnocchi and fennel both beautiful and lovely. Poached pears finished me off perfectly!

I ate here a couple of weeks back and had the veal burger for mains which really was fantastic with the chips done perfectly - something that can be overlooked in similar restaurants. My friend had the pumpkin and hazelnut risotto which I tried - the hazelnuts and truffle oil used really came together to surpass any expectations I had.

The chocolate tart for dessert was wow out of 10.

The service was spot on - friendly and efficient. What service should be - enhancing the experience without getting in the way of your enjoyment. The waitress genuinely seemed to be enjoying her role of ensuring the patrons had everything they wanted which is a rarity in London and made for a pleasant evening.

I am not surprised the place was pretty much packed on the weeknight we went there and to top it off the chef took the time to speak to us about our meal at the end of the night. Needless to say, he got a good response.

I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

I've been taken out there on wednesday, by friends, who work locally. Restaurant looked pretty busy for this time a week and, clearly, everyone was enjoying themselves. Our food tasted great, both starters (whitebait and chicken liver salad) and main courses (lamb and veal burger). Bitter chocolate tart (recommended by friendly manageress) was just a perfect finish. definitely worth trying out

I went there for supper last night. Food was excellent, service attentive, menu intresting for foodies, a tad intimidating for the plain and simple brigade. But you should not let that put you off - go with it - great combinations.

I had my first 101 experience last night and was not disappointed. Service was friendly and efficient and the ambiance was wonderfully relaxed which made it a great place to catch up over great food and great wine.

I can highly recommend the goats cheese beignet on a bed of black pudding and beetroot, a really interesting dish! I will look forward to going back and seeing what becomes of the restaurant as it continues to establish itself and find its feet.

Had my Birthday Supper at 101 last Saturday and it was fantastic!

The food was superb and the staff were very attentive.

Everyone commented on how delicious the food was. I had the cod with black pudding, it was some of the best fish I have had in a long time, this was followed by a perfectly executed creme brulee.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Friday, May 20, 2011 - 101 Pimlico is undeservedly underrated, abit of a sleeper gem of a restaurant and I am surprised it isn't more popular that it ought to be. The food is fabulously well cooked. Keith Goddard (and team by extension) is clearly a man (and his team of chefs), you want cooking for you. The decor, well, if I may say, is a little dry. But service is absolutely spot on...Price wise, the ala carte is a tad steep, but the set lunch is exceptional value. If you're on the fence, I suggest going for lunch first, and then a full on dinner.

A Forkful of Spaghetti

Monday, May 10, 2010 - All those whitebait I've eaten, most were done an injustice - either cooked to bullets, or over- or under-seasoned. These specimens, by contrast, were fat, fishy, juicy critters treated with the lightest (another recurring theme here, it seems) of spicing and frying, blessed with a gorgeously creamy accompanying aioli...This is food you want to eat. And eat more of. It's not flashy, gizmo-supported stuff, it's just bloomin' good food, cooked really well.
