Monday, May 02, 2011 - Although my friend was ambivalent about his braised shoulder of Middle White pork, finding it 'a bit confit style for my taste', he loved the cep mash served with it. My main course was cleverer, an impeccably fresh, grilled piece of that cheap and underrated fish the mackerel, with alfalfa sprouts and orange couscous in a soy and sesame oil dressing. I loathe couscous and would find a bowl of it awaiting me in Room 101 (if Ed Balls was unavailable), but this was sensational. So was a side order of truffle-infused fat chips, a very cute mingling of the ephemeral and the exotic.

David Sexton - 3/5

Thursday, September 16, 2010 - Diver scallops, truffled potato, raisin puree, tomato and basil was ornate in appearance but it came together in the mouth. Roast cod had been fiercely browned; the kale, usually a stringy waste of space, had been de-stalked, tenderised and crisped; the little gnocchi were cheesey yums, while the micro-pieces of black pudding made a surprisingly delicate turfish retort to the surf. Poached brill, white onion and tomato risotto, cockles and girolle mushrooms didn't work so well. The risotto was flavourful and rich, extra butter dashed in at the last minute, with just one intact cockle detectable.

Dinner for 2 at 8.30. Sat 7 May 2011

Unfriendly and grim-faced manager but the waiters and waitresses were very nice.

We had an 8.30 reservation, dining room was 50-60% full. we were seated in the table right next to the front door which is the worst table in the whole restaurant! When the front door closes, our table would vibrate! We asked to be moved to one of the many empty tables for 2 further in the dining room, the manager told us that they we all reserved. By the time we left, those tables were still empty! Maybe he meant reserved for next weekend?!?

Food was lovely, starters very nicely presented and tasty. Main course less impressive, I had a halibut (£25) but it was over-cooked.

The unfriendly service from the manager was very disappointing, although the food was nice, but service lets the whole experience down. We will NOT return and will not recommend it, there are plenty of very nice restaurants on Pimlico Road.

Went here on Saturday night with friends to celebrate my birthday. Excellent meal. I had baby octopus, which I was a bit dubious about, but was really nice, followed by roast halibut in a broth, which was delicious, followed by white chocolate and raspberry cheese cake, yummy.

I have 1 issue though. Our table was booked for 8.30. When waiter came to take our order we were told that the starter and main which I was going to order were not available. Fair enough, but 2 of us had the last 2 halibut, and we also had the last 2 cheesecake. Now I understand that restaurants do not want to over order, but it is quite a small menu, and to find that 4 dishes were virtually finished makes it a very limited choice. My order was taken first, otherwise I may not have been able to have any of my first, or possibly even second choices for every course.

The bill worked out at £80 per head, which considering we all had 3 courses, 3 bottles of wine, and liqueurs and coffee was reasonable. I would certainly recommend, but maybe go earlier than 8.30!!!

We went to 101 Pimlico Road for Valentine's Day and we were not disappointed. We had their special tasting menu, and it was excellent. The service was very good also. Will be going back to try the rest of their menu.

As Saturday evening's diners cancelled in their droves, we found ourselves in a under populated restaurant, which meant the service was almost personalised.

In a nutshell, excellent food (the chef is some kind of genius of food porn) where taste is followed by after taste to maximum impact.

Service was polite, affable and efficient.

Definitely one of the best meals I've enjoyed, EVER.

Nice decor etc. Go. Enjoy.

Had heard from friends this place was a bit of a hidden gem. I had dinner there last night and they were not joking. It was so so good! Shhh.... don't tell anyone - otherwise I might not be able to get my new favourite table for much longer....!

Had the most wonderful lunch today at 101 - Not only was the service and food impeccable (beautifully cooked Steak Bearnaise accompanied with fries and spinach), but the general atmosphere and relaxed formalities has definitely allowed me to come away and tell my friends and family what a charming restaurant 101 Pimlico Road is.

The wine menu has a wide variation according to taste and expense and the pudding menu leaves you spoilt for choice, however the crème brulée I had was sensational, what I would call a satisfying crescendo to a fantastic meal.

Thanks to all those involved, looking forward to coming soon for supper!

i have heard only good things about this restaurant from friends and as a result tried it last week. the only thing i can say is that they were telling the truth. i had dinner, the place was busy, the clientele very smart. the table next to me were seasoned regulars and "have been since it first opened". I ate some wonderful food and was very impressed with the service too. wine list was shortish but again, top drawer with what it listed. the south african cabernet is a damn good bottle.

Friday, May 20, 2011 - 101 Pimlico is undeservedly underrated, abit of a sleeper gem of a restaurant and I am surprised it isn't more popular that it ought to be. The food is fabulously well cooked. Keith Goddard (and team by extension) is clearly a man (and his team of chefs), you want cooking for you. The decor, well, if I may say, is a little dry. But service is absolutely spot on...Price wise, the ala carte is a tad steep, but the set lunch is exceptional value. If you're on the fence, I suggest going for lunch first, and then a full on dinner.

A Forkful of Spaghetti

A Forkful of Spaghetti

Monday, May 10, 2010 - All those whitebait I've eaten, most were done an injustice - either cooked to bullets, or over- or under-seasoned. These specimens, by contrast, were fat, fishy, juicy critters treated with the lightest (another recurring theme here, it seems) of spicing and frying, blessed with a gorgeously creamy accompanying aioli...This is food you want to eat. And eat more of. It's not flashy, gizmo-supported stuff, it's just bloomin' good food, cooked really well.
