Sunday, June 06, 2010 - The dining room at the back has been decorated not so much in a style as in a hurry, without thought that people might want to eat here. The random overhead spotlights give faces that amusing, shiny dentist's-chair look, and the menu comes with a concept...The shared-food deal doesn't work for odd numbers. A plate of prawns came with two prawns, so you needed two plates, and got one leftover prawn. The chicken tikka thing was a pair of small thighs. How do you comfortably share chicken extremities? We also ordered sea bass, a square of fish transplant in a sauce of rendered Pritt Stick.

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 - The pancakes were a bit bland. The courgettes with red pepper and a roast-onion sauce were better, but still lacked the punch of street food, for my money. Some tiger prawns in piri-piri sauce came with a bean-curd and corn salad. It sounds a bit special interest, but actually the salad was very pleasing, sort of likeable, unflappable, more of a canvas than a proper taste, for the moderately spicy, extremely juicy prawns...In the end I couldn't pick out one colony from another in any of these dishes; the flavours were cacophonous. It's tasty enough, but it doesn't live up to its own interior.

I have been to Colony twice and both times I really enjoyed my meal. The service is excellent - the waiter brought me some fresh from the oven naan bread and raita when I told him my dish was a bit spicy - and did not even charge it. The food is flavoursome and well presented. The atmosphere is relaxed and you feel no rush. This is a place where you can enjoy a tasty, relaxed lunch, while being well looked after. Best of all, it is not particularly expensive. I would definitely go back.

If you enjoy a drink and, should your mood take you, a few tapasesque dishes in a relaxed atmosphere with excellent serive after work, the Colony is for you. If you enjoy Indian cuisine the food here is second to none outside of Mumbai. A restaurant/bar that can combine these two features is rare enough but Colony achieves it in spades. Go and enjoy. I went for the first time over the Valentines weekend- the Jazz was fantastic. The Lunch was really good value and simple - I had the fish stew and one dish was enough - desert was an espresso martini - to die for! What a great way to spend Sunday lunch - I will be back.

I first dined at Colony last month and have since been back several times. The food is wonderful! And it is served in such a way that you can have a few small bites with drinks after work almost like tapas or meze, or you can have full meals. I can highly recommend the mutton, the roasted potatoes stuffed with paneer and cashew nuts and the mango pannacotta which is divine! The bar area is perfect for drinks after work and the whole restaurant has a relaxed air about it. The staff are unobtrusive but there if you need them and are very knowledgeable about the food they are serving you. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

A vibrant and welcoming place to eat. The service is great and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I've been there several times with friends and enjoyed it every time. The bar menu is a great idea if you just fancy a bite to eat with your drinks. Calamari is yum. The cocktails are great ...the passion fruit mahito is a must try along with lychee martini... goes down well on a summer's evening.

My hunt for a 'something different, classy, good and gratifying' restaurant ends at 'Colony'. The only place in London that I would love to visit again and again and again! :)

Vibrant and colourful interiors at the bar definitely take your attention. A perfect place to unwind after a long tiring day.

A 'MUST' try are the cocktails - perfect blend of flavour, tang & appearance. Amazingly refreshing and my personal favourites are Lychee Martini and Long Island.

Though they have a limited menu, but the ones there definitely tickle all your taste buds. My favourite - Aubergine & Cauliflower with Green Peas.

An elegant place with yum food and the most welcoming people around...It's definitely worth trying!

I'm coming again this weekend...Colony! :)

I could not possibly agree with the previous reviewer Jack. He obviously had a bad day. This restaurant is fantastic. I have been to it several times now and have taken various friends and colleges and have nothing be good things to say about the place. The food is great, the service is discreet but very good, the cocktails are fantastic and the atmosphere very chilled. It's a place I now go to regularly.

I eat at Colony last night with 3 friends. I was going to write a full review of why I found this restaurant so dissappointing when I somewhat belatedly stumbled across AA Gill's article. Instead I would point anyone considering dining at this restaurant in the direction of this article as it's spot on!

We have had 3 trips now, the most recent was 6 of us for my mother in-law's 70th Birthday. John the manager on all occasions was very attentive and on this occasion sent us a bottle of champagne on the house which was a lovely touch.

Ambiance is very relaxed, food good and staff are very friendly compared to Benares which I found to be a bit stuffy.

Recently went with 5 friends and a baby.

The decor and ambience is clean and welcoming - not over exuberant

As Indian's ourselves, and self professed foodies who have enjoyed many a restaurant in London, the group concensus was that the food was generally very good and well spiced. The ingredients are fresh and of high standard.

The portions were undersized, more tapas than curry house, we thus ordered main course twice to satisfy our hunger. The food is overpriced however.

The service was quick and efficient, but the European staff seem to speak little English. We had a complaint with one dish, only to be offered a refund for it. We would have hoped for an offer of complimentary coffee or tea, in light of the fact this is a new restaurant hoping to build a reputation.

So whilst the food is good, the prices mean that I would recommend this were a special offer were available.

Dos Hermanos

Dos Hermanos

Friday, February 19, 2010 - There were misfires of course. Two pieces of monkfish were mushy and overcooked, but rescued by fresh and excellent crab vermicelli. Proper Biryani should come with goat, instead it came with lamb and rice that did not taste as if they had been cooked together the latter being spongy and the former slightly chewy. Spiced Tiger prawns were excellent, for 15.50 for two they damn well should have been, but the cooking and ingredients were spot on. Chicken Tikka Masala was not bad at all, if totally alien to any Indian street vendor who has ever drawn breath and a side dish of aubergine was deliciously smokey.
