Just came back from dinner at Grand Union and was appalled by the rude, indifferent attitude from one of the staff.

One member of our group is recovering from a back injury and had placed her feet on a chair in order to sit in a more comfortable position at the table. We were enjoying the evening until she was rudely and abruptly ordered to remove them by a member of staff as the chairs were 'expensive and antique.'

Fair enough perhaps, but the tone in which this particular member of staff delivered the request (even after we explained our situation) was what really upset us, along with his complete lack of interest in the needs of paying customers. Perhaps another alternative could have been offered? (a foot stool or plastic chair?) or at least a sincere apology that he was unable to accommodate our injured friend.

What could have been a nice night out was cut short and we left the premises feeling deflated and ripped off. The food was OK and the surroundings pleasant but after our experience with the staff, the rest of our evening was ruined. Grand Union had potential, but we certainly will not return.

Gourmet Chick - 7/10

Wednesday, December 23, 2009 - The Grand Union is huge but it avoids having a beer barn like feel thanks to the hodge podge of mismatched furniture, assortment of quirky paintings and giant chandeliers which all bring some warmth and character to the pub...The burgers are huge, almost as big as my head. Greek lamb burger is made from a meaty ball of lamb mince and smothered in a creamy cucumber raita sauce, hommus and a little kick of chilli sauce. The meat itself was perfectly pink and juicy.
