Lisa Markwell - 5/10

Sunday, July 25, 2010 - It's built for speed, not for comfort - metal-topped tables and chuck-away plates and cutlery. In fact, it's quick-casual...My bowl of barbacoa beef (stringy, but not unpleasant) comes with rice, beans, salsa, sour cream and chillis, which is what all the dishes on offer seem to be - just the meat (there's also pork and chicken, which look unnervingly similar) and delivery method varies. Mr M has the pork version wrapped in a tortilla and it arrives sealed in tinfoil, looking like a bomb. With a beer, lemonade and shared side order of chips and surprisingly zingy, fresh guacamole.

I'm an American who has been living in the North of England and came to London for a trip recently. I used to eat Chipotle in the US all the time and I found this Chipotle to be extremely similar in price and atmosphere to the restaurants in the US. The menu was nearly if not identical. Since living in England, I have come to realise that not very many Brits appreciate Mexican food the way that I do and I think the reviews on this site reflect that. Yes, burritos are traditionally a very simple dish! Yes, Chipotle is a very informal restaurant that serves your burrito in foil! I'd rather have this tasty lunch than a sandwich from Pret and next time I'm in London, I'll be coming here again!

As previous reviewers have noted, very expensive for what you get. This is essentially a Mexican themed take on a Subway, but with restaurant level pricing. £6.35 for a not particularly large veggie burrito offers neither good value nor a filling meal.

The restaurant itself is a pretty standard fast food affair - less of a restaurant than even Nandos, with whom I would imagine they would like to compete.

Have visited a few of these in the US and unsurprisingly they offer larger portions for a considerably more reasonable (takeaway level) price. So far in the UK they seem to be falling between two stools. Overall, I don't think I'll be returning.

If you're into healthy food, this isn't the place for you.

The chicken pieces are undoubtedly tasty - if you like thigh meat and the skin left on. Unfortunately, I don't. Having picked it out, all that was left of my salad was some oily vegetables, a handful of chopped lettuce, some tomato salsa and a sad little helping of guacamole, for which I was charged a whopping £1.40 (on top of an already overpriced £6.60 standard charge). With so much good quality, tasty competition in the area, particularly around Goodge Street, I'd be hard pressed to find a reason to come back. The dining atmosphere is a little sterile, though the service is friendly and the staff overall eager to please.

Open one near mildenhall if not in it!'!!!!!! To be honest my wife and I came to London to see a play but made sure we ate chipotle for lunch. We lived on it in the states and when we saw they opened one london we knew we were going. We traveled from mildenhall early just to make it here for lunch. I am pleased to say this is the only good Mexican I've had in England and it taste just like it did in the states! We will be back for sure!! People said it was pricey but hey, your in London! !And I didn't think the prices are bad for how good it is¡

the only negative was the music, it is a Mexican restaurant.

Can you say Rip Off. I lived at Chipotle in the states for a number of years and I hate to see the good folk of London fleeced by the exorbitant prices. A chicken burrito in the states costs less in US dollars than it does in UK pounds! Somebody is taking it to the bank! I'm sure that goes completely against the Chipotle ethos of providing excllent wholesome food at a reasonable price. The folks at Chipotle London should be ashamed of themselves.

there needs to be more places like this, for when you're stumbling home after a night out and your stomach is begging you to fill it with something of value. quite often you'll consider a kebab, and you know at the time it'll only come back to haunt you.

instead, chipotle will fill your hole with good-tasting and substantial food, that actually tastes like you're eating something half-way to healthy. and to top it all off, you can have a beer there.

now, if only we could convince them to stay open 'til 2am every day.

The burrito was a pork filled monster, that if anything was slightly too much for me. I was stuffed afterwards. A worthy kebab replacement in my book - healthier, and a superior beast in every respect. In the words of my favourite Austrian governor - I'll be back.

Became addicted to these things in the states whilst on various trips and been praying for them to arrive in London for so long (along with Jamba Juice).

And they're still great. A word of warning though - they are horrifically expensive. £6.95 for your basic burrito, plus an extra £1.40 for guacamole. Two burritos with guac and two bottles of water was £19.20. Chilango isn't quite as good, but its a a lot cheaper.

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

Friday, August 27, 2010 - The cost may be on the high side, but the chunks of meat looked the business. Nice char on the outside with a ruby pink centre, I knew it was too good to be true. I trudged back to the office, took it back to my desk and took my first bite. A wave of disappointment immediately came over me. If you want a blow by blow account, the first taste to hit you is the intense sourness. Odd and unpleasant, a heavy handed squeeze of lime assaulted my taste buds...Very disappointed, I discarded the last few mouthfuls in disgust.
