This Is London

This Is London - 4/5

Thursday, February 18, 2010 - We started with a spread of mezze bursting with freshness - admirably smoky mutabbal, tender kibbeh balls, tabbuleh as zingily fresh as it should be, juicy spinach and meat pastries, loubia bi zeit, stuffed vine leaves and fattoush salad. We moved on to a substantial mixed grill: lamb shish, shish tawouk, lamb chop and kafta kebabs. It was all of a similar high quality as elsewhere in London; the extra touches I liked were the roasted tomato and onions with it and the onion, tomato and parsley-filled flatbread served, broken, on top of it, a Beiruti habit rarely seen here.

We were having a dinner at this place last wednesday with a couple of visitors from outside LONDON .the place is completly upside down nothing as is good as it was . even the decoration has lost the shining of it .a sadness and a FRENCH colonial atmosphere is dusting and storming all in .our lovely staff has left no one is there .even the smile went with them .Food in quantity and quality is not the main case of the place anymore.kibbi is frozen and cold inside our waiter confirmed that by saying under the air a new management came and his is have way changing everything .A portion of taboula is half of the normal size full of lemon juice and Barbecue is absolutely dreadfull .It is really a shame to say most of our restaurant did the same and they forget the value of human resources and their familiarity with their customers we do ask the new management to review their strategy and tell us are you here to gain customers or to say we are here.Keep your staff your place won,t be enough.

We will go back to Noura as our best restaurant and keep your decoration for yourself or take it back with you to Lebanon.we are after human not stones.

Where do I begin. I live very close to this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the site being refurbished into Assaha with great anticipation.

This did not fail to disappoint, as I had organised a work event to try out this little oasis, which I can say having dined in the downstairs setting, the only place to enjoy the fantastic ambience. Rural alcoves with rustic tracks to get lost in, the journey to and from the loos made only more enjoyable as, I say, you can tell how well kept a place is by the decor and styling of the loos. Its a shame that Urban Turban closed.

Right - the nitty gritty. I have to hold up my hand and take responsibility for asking the waiters recommendations for my guests as the menu is soooo confusing. Its in the style of a broadsheet, reading from back to front. Something which they have now changed after a year or so of opening, and yes we were overflowing with glorious food - just too much.

The down side, and to me its inexcusable, especially in today’s current climate for competition, the customer service is appalling!! Unfortunately, the rural setting, the ambience, the food only spoilt by the laid back middle eastern style of service, which they should have left behind.

I have visited the restaurant a few occasions since, but only to collect a takeaways, of which there is an advertised 10% discount in the window - which you will have to remind them to include off your now increased price menu, where the old menu is still available.

On one such visit, I witnessed the waiters openly ridiculing a customer who had just left, and also been manhandled half way down the street before being frog marched back to the restaurant only to find they had given me the right takeaway - no apology expected or received.

Needless to say, my last visit today will truly become my last as the phone reception I received and then the ever reminding 10% discount finally drew me to my conclusion that decor is one thing, food another, but the customer service is certainly one of the primaries in me finding and for them keeping me as a customer.

You also need to know that, unlike other Lebanese restaurants equal in food quality, this one does not sell alcohol. My guests were too polite to mention.

I had the chance to be as a guest with a couple of friends at this newly opened restaurant .It is a unique place decorated with honey colored sand stones full of attraction. everything sounds well organized the waiters black dressed and tidy. food is fresh you smell the odor of fresh vegetables and you enjoy the taste of Tabule and smoked Moutabal which is hand crushed and the taste of lamb barbecue is superb . a dish of lebanese sweets was a complementary followes by a cup of lebanese tea for a reasonable price and attractive decoration you may enjoy the taste of real lebanese food and escape the junk

The decor is interesting and provides a good atmosphere. The food is certainly not bad, but it is certainly not spectacular either. Some dishes are very good but they need morre consistency to compete with the numerous Lebanese competitors on nearby Edgware Road.

We went to this restaurant tonight it took 45 minutes to get the starters and another 30 minutes after that for the main course to arrive, the food was ok but it was let down by the service and the waiters just keep walking passed say 5 minutes. the price is good for value, this restaurant really needs to sort out the waiters and the long wait we were not the only table to ask when their food was going to arrive.

Went to this restaurant yesterday after reading positive reviews on a couple of websites. I have to say I was very disappointed...everything was a bit of an anti climax. The food is ok..nothing special really..I've eaten much better in more humble surroundings. All told it is a tourist trap, quite expensive and over rated.
