The Four Lanters is a restaurant which we would definately recommend. Not only once we went there, it's a perfect place for romantic dinner with husband, to invite friends or parents. Everyone will find there something special for himself, food is excellent, tasty and always well served. You're always noticed, greeted and entertained by the owner and staff, what makes you special guest.
We wish only successes and endless guests' list!!!

Hi All,
A little it perplexed about some of the reviews.
I have eaten at the four Lanterns before and I was, at that time, on my own in London on business. I had then a great meal and having lived as a brit in Cyprus was very please to eat the traditional Fare provided. In fact it was great...no complaints!
I visited London this weekend 23rd November with my daughter (9) and wife. We booked into the Four Lanterns hoping that all was the same as I could remeber on my last visit.
We arrived at the most inconvienient time at 5.25 before the inn was even open. We were welcomed in even before the opening time and showmn our seats and from then on were treated to a feast of what I would call traditional Greek and Cypriot food. My daughter being 9 only went for the chicken kabab, but my wife and I went for the Meze...... Wow... what a Meze... this was with out doubt the best Meze we have had in the UK and we have had many.
When we rolled out of the taverna some 2 hours later, (This was our choice, we could have stayed later, but our duagter was by now flagging!), we were totally satisfied and our bellies full.
In total we had over 25 dishes, the starter dishes were authentic and the fish dishes were amazing. The main course of meat was good.
There was only one down fall... we could not do justice to the food... there was SOOOoooo much!
I can understand others opinions, as they are their opinions but my experience was fantastic, well done The Four Lanterns.
My advice...... talk to them and try to inderstand their food... go with an open mind and a big appetite.......you will not be disapointed.

Our party of 9 were extremely dissapointed after visiting this so called Greek Restaurant on Thursday 15th November 2007. We went for the Meza which which lacked imagination and content.
The whole meal was poor to say the least with the service matching the meal.

My wife and I have eaten at the 4 Lanterns twice and it was great both times, packed out as usual, very reasonable prices and the owner is completely nuts!

After reading the reviews on here, we gave Four Lanterns a try, thinking we were onto a sure thing. I went there on a scouting mission as it was a potential venue for a forthcoming birthday booking of 30 people. We couldn't have been more wrong. The service was reprehensible, with just one, miserable waitress for about 10 tables.
My girlfriend and I selected the meze, as we both like the variety and choice that this usually provides. The owner seemed really accomodating of my girlfriends preference for fish dishes (though they had confirmed by 'phone that there was supposedly a fish meze available, when there was none on the menu) and promised to provide a meze with both fish and meat dishes.
Typical mezes in other Cypriot eateries consist of anything between 20 and 30 small dishes with meat and fish courses. Here we were presented with 3 dips, a prawn each, a scrap of smoked salmon, then left for about and hour whilst the grim faced waitress fussed about the place. When I politely asked when the next course was likely to come, I heard the waitress and the owner talking behind me about how impatient I was being. No apologies.
Then, instead of the usual meze of several more dishes, we were presented with one plate of meat (a good amount and variety to be fair) and a plate of "fish" all of which can be bought in the freezer section of the supermarket, then deep fried. The only exception was a salmon steak, grilled, which was cremated on the outside and raw in the middle. I would expect a Greek salad to accompany any meze as standard, but we had to ask for one to accompany our food, which was served undressed and looking very sorry for itself.
That was the end of it. A thoroughly unsatisfying dining experience, though, the cost was fairly reasonable (£40 for two, with a couple of beers each).
There are some far superior Greek restaurants in London, so don't settle for substandard fare like this. You can easily find much better if you look.

I've been going to Peter at the 4 Lanterns for too many years to remember. He's one of the best hosts in London and the food is always fresh.

After reading the other reviews, we decided to give the Four Lanterns a try after going to the afternoon performance of Mary Poppins last Saturday.
We were made to feel most welcome, the restaurant owner was on hand to play tricks and joke with the children. One member of our party in a coeliac and his dietary requirements were taken into acout with out hesitation. The toilets were also spotless! (Always high on my daughters list of requirements)
The food was excellent and for a party of 6 (including drinks) the total bill came to £90.00. Bargin for central London.
We would recommend a visit to this restaurant with out question.

Excellent family run restaurant. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and the service was excellent as was the food. For starters we had some lovely sausages and fantastic grilled sardines and our mains, lamb in my case and chicken for my boyfriend were both perfect. This is not haute cuisine by any means but if you want well cooked Greek classics for excellent value in a friendly family run restaurant then this is the place for you. Bill came in at £50 for starters, mains and wine. Would definitely go again.
