TimeOut

TimeOut - 3/5

Sunday, September 19, 2010 - This bar is a temple to tequila with 38 different bottles all of which are made with one hundred per cent agave and feature blanco (white), reposado and anejo varieties. You can sip the better ones neat, but it'd be remiss to ignore the menu of marvellous and classic Margaritas of which Tommy's Margarita was the pick...Bottled Mexican beers include the clean and crisp Pacifico Clara, the nutty Bohemia and Negra Modelo, which is maltier and with more mouthfeel. In terms of food, you can corral big and generous burritos, tortas and tacos from the kitsch Baja Californian restaurant above.

Thursday, June 03, 2010 - The main courses - a sharing mix, as suggested by the very best waitress in town - were exceptional. Crispy tacos served with fish, chicken or beef filling, and the usual crispy lettuce/sour cream combo. The soft, rolled burritos were really something - beef especially good, I'm told - and memorable for the fantastic couple of dollops of black bean concoction that came with them. The margharitas were individually made before our eyes, and all the better for it. Perfect sweet and sour, lime, salt and tequila mix.

Walked in for a quick takeaway lunch burrito and ended up having to wait 45 minutes! The burrito was OK, nothing special though and very small for £7.25 when compared to what you get from Tortilla. The manager was rude when we complained and tried to tell us we could just get our money back and leave after a long wait.

Verdict - don't even bother there are much better places available for this type of food all within a few mins walk.

My friends and I walked by El Camino last week and thought we would try it out. The restaurant upstairs was full, but they told us we could get the same food downstairs at the bar so decided to check it out.

Its been a while since I had Mexican food so was looking forward to what we were going to get, for starters we ordered some Jalapeno Poppers and Ceviche and for our mains, a Burrito and some Tostadas. The Poppers came first with the larger ones still being cold on the inside, they didn't taste too good either and were fairly bland. Next up was the Ceviche, which looked more like a Prawn Cocktail and the meaty bits were still tough. The biggest disappointment came when we received our mains, for the Tostadas we received 2 small pieces in a plastic tray! It looked like we had received another starter rather than a main, in spite of the price they were charging. The dish itself wasn't anything special and the chicken I had was over cooked and burnt in places. I was told the Burrito was ok, but that in no way made up for the rest of it.

The only saving grace the place had was that the waitress who was running around frantically was very apologetic and the manager did agree not to charge for the starters and one of the mains.

As a bar the place looks ok and the cocktails did look good although we didn't try any (we only had bottled beer), if you’re there just to drink you might like the place, but I would never recommend it to anyone who wanted food!

Had a drink at the bar beneath El Camino on thursday. We had a couple of margaritas, which were excellent and some amazing guacamole. Headed up for dinner where we sat at a table next to the hot sauce display. The food was really fresh tasting and tasty. The best burrito I think I've ever had. The fish tacos were nice too, and healthy :)

i would recommend El Camino for an inexpensive meal with a great atmosphere.

Made a booking by phone the night before. When I arrived at 5:30pm, I first got told that they do not take booking. They then told me what the real issue is - kids are not allowed. I had brought my two children along.

Great Mexican food! Just like what I can get in California - fresh ingredients, proper guacamole and salsa and delicious quality meats. I have finally found real Mexican food in London!
