El Camino's Soho branch is set over two floors on the former Enclave site on Brewer Street. The ground floor restaurant features a display of over 2000 different hot sauces and a concise Mexican menu; while the basement members' bar will be run by legendary London bartender Dick Bradsell.

TimeOut

TimeOut - 3/5

Sunday, September 19, 2010 - This bar is a temple to tequila with 38 different bottles all of which are made with one hundred per cent agave and feature blanco (white), reposado and anejo varieties. You can sip the better ones neat, but it'd be remiss to ignore the menu of marvellous and classic Margaritas of which Tommy's Margarita was the pick...Bottled Mexican beers include the clean and crisp Pacifico Clara, the nutty Bohemia and Negra Modelo, which is maltier and with more mouthfeel. In terms of food, you can corral big and generous burritos, tortas and tacos from the kitsch Baja Californian restaurant above.

Thursday, June 03, 2010 - The main courses - a sharing mix, as suggested by the very best waitress in town - were exceptional. Crispy tacos served with fish, chicken or beef filling, and the usual crispy lettuce/sour cream combo. The soft, rolled burritos were really something - beef especially good, I'm told - and memorable for the fantastic couple of dollops of black bean concoction that came with them. The margharitas were individually made before our eyes, and all the better for it. Perfect sweet and sour, lime, salt and tequila mix.

Hands down this place wins the prize for the grubbiest, sloppiest waitresses I've ever seen (tracksuit bottoms, ripped tights, greasy hair) - it really makes you wonder about the state of the kitchen. Wine (£20) was undrinkable and food was expensive and below par, a dismal experience all round.

Decided to visit with a colleague this Friday lunch time.

We were greeted instantly by a waiter who was quickly able to locate a table for us. We looked at the menu and decided to order the lunch time specials (tortilla chips and burritos) as they were advertised as ready within 15 minutes.

Our order was taken promptly and we waited, and waited and waited. 20 minutes into waiting we asked the waitress where our food was, she informed us in a plain manner that it was coming. After a further 10 minutes some extremely stone cold tortilla chips were delivered along with an abrupt sorry. The salsa was flavoursome but the tortilla chips were too cold to make the meal edible. No attempt to either warm them or even present them at room temperature. I do not understand how a cold virtually pre-prepared meal takes a minimum of 30 minutes to prepare.

Once finished we waited 10 minutes and asked about our main meal, (since there was a delay in delivering the tortilla chips to us surely the rest of the meal was already being prepared) we were informed it was coming shortly, after a further 5 minutes we asked again and were greeted with the same response. A further 5 minutes later and we simply walked out of the door.

After some 55 minutes in the restaurant our only memory is that of cold tortilla chips, appalling service, and clearly no interest in getting anything to our table. Please also note the place was only 2/3rds full.

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

Went to El Camion for the second time. We had dinner upstairs which was really good fun. The staff are really helpful. They suggested a Tommies margarita, which was the perfect balance of sweet and sour. The food was EXCellent. the tacos had just the right amount of flavor. Having lived in California for 10 years, I can tell you these were the best I've had in London. the pork carnitas were particularly good, but the grilled shrimp were the healthier option.

The bar is run by Dick Bradsell who made us some frozen Strawberry margaritas and then we got into the shots, dancing..more shots..A great night.

I have eaten in the bar downstairs a few times. I have also tried their cocktails and tequilas. I have enjoyed the food and drinks on all occasions.

Absolutely and without doubt the worst meal I think I have ever been sold. If someone gave me this as a freebie I would be insulted. My tacos were soft and cold, with badly cooked mince which I had to return to the kitchen. There was no salad, the salsa was a red-brown dollop. Actually it wasn't a dollop it was a drip. It looked like a drip of tomato puree. When they came back the food was so unbearably salty that I couldn't eat it despite having been famished when I entered the restaurant. I wish I'd had the guts not to pay because I felt cheated and disheartened on leaving. I will never return and urge you not to go, even as a dare.

Fast food should be quick and cheap this place is neither. The food reminded me of those awful tex-mex places from years back but expensive and meanly served. If you want good, fresh Mexican food go to Benito's Hat.

Our bill came to about £30 a head for burritos, chips, a few drinks and service. Crazy!

overpriced food, small portions and my husband was left spitting out the paper bits that is used to line the plastic basket- must get that sorted! good cocktails and food tasted good but because of the small portions and price, will never return.

also had problems getting the bill and flagging down the waitress- she needs to learn how to check tables rather than ignore the customers.

Walked in for a quick takeaway lunch burrito and ended up having to wait 45 minutes! The burrito was OK, nothing special though and very small for £7.25 when compared to what you get from Tortilla. The manager was rude when we complained and tried to tell us we could just get our money back and leave after a long wait.

Verdict - don't even bother there are much better places available for this type of food all within a few mins walk.
