Looking for a quick, cheap food fix in Soho? Head for this new pizza parlour on Greek Street where fresh pizzas are displayed on large trays, cut to any size and then priced by weight. Chef Shelley Squire did his research in Rome and reckons he's found the perfect crispy crust recipe. It's open late too - perfect for a post-pub slice.

I had high hopes for this place, central London is much in need of a decent takeaway pizza restaurant. However I found it all a little gimmick over substance. Selling each piece by weight is just plain silly, perhaps because it was newly opened but the member of staff couldn't estimate the amount I'd ask for (which was just a guess in the first place) and ended up cutting a piece bigger than I wanted to pay for, she offered to cut it down but it was rather embarrassing to ask her to chop of a piece (which would've gone to waste) so I just took it and paid. £5 for a rather small slice of pizza with more of a suggestion of a topping than anything you could get your teeth into and I went away feeling hungry and a little ripped off. The dough was quite nice, def an above average slice, not as authentic as I hoped. Perhaps in time they'll iron out the creases but I won't be rushing back.

Even though this place is essentially a ‘fast food’ takeaway joint, to drop in to for a quick snack, it’s so good I recommend you make a special trip to eat there.

When I visited they had about eight different toppings available in huge trays, from which the very friendly staff are happy to cut as much or as little as you like. You pay according to the weight of your particular slice.

My brother and I were being particularly greedy so we spent £15 altogether, including soft drinks, and it was worth every penny. We tasted the piccante (fresh, juicy cherry tomatoes with chilli), the sausage and mushroom (usually my idea of pizza topping hell, but the sausage is real, juicy, meat, and there are generous chunks of it spread liberally around your slice), the tuna and artichoke (our favourite), the bufala mozzarella and roasted pepper (long, sweetly roasted slices of pepper, rocket, and big, flavourful hunks of mozzarella), and potato and rosemary (second favourite). All this was presented on a little wooden tray by the cheery girl behind the counter.

We were a bit too early for a fresh-cooked tray of gorgonzola and raddichio, which came out steaming and melty just as we were leaving. Will definitely be going back for that one.

What really struck me about these pizzas was their excellent base (crisp and chewy and light, and very Italian), and the generosity and flavour of the toppings. It’s so rare to find a properly made pizza with good quality ingredients that work.

This place is perfect if you want something quick and good to eat on a night out round Soho.

The Graphic Foodie

Friday, May 07, 2010 - I must have tried everything on the menu; top on my list was the Spicy Salami and, no surprise, the Potato and Rosemary (with truffle oil) which took me back. There is a bit of a divide with the potato pizza but you must try it, it's one of my all-time favorites. The really colourful Courgette and Pepper topping was also really good as was the Sausage and Mushroom...I think this is a cracking place for lunch which even sells San Pelligrino Chino drink, a sort of crodino tasting cola - yum!
