Now open in Chelsea, a French restaurant specialising in 'cheese gastronomy'. Expect fondue, Raclette and tartiflette, as well as traditional Gallic dishes like Burgundian snails, tarte flambee and creme brulee.

AA Gill - 4/5

Sunday, October 03, 2010 - The honorable member had a tian of crab that was dainty and light, a coalition of crabbiness and avocados, and then a stuffed guinea fowl, with a wodge of layered potato, onion, cream and Beaufort cheese. That was excellent; but the best of all was my thin Strasbourg tart. This is an old-fashioned, Franco-German pizza, an elegant, crisp crust dressed with a negligee of sauerkraut, poitrine and Strasbourg sausage. Sensationnel. Ausgezeichnet. A wonderful regional dish that I can't think you'll find anywhere else in London. Perfect for lunch. There was too much for me to finish, and it was 10.80.

Giles Coren - 8/10

Saturday, April 10, 2010 - My friends started with an excellent old-skool French onion soup (plus Emmental crouton) and foie gras du chef (no cheese at all). Esther had deep-fried Munster balls which I thought were great (but then I'm a sucker for fried cheese), and I had that tremendous tarte flambee Strasbourgeoise, which was, in isolation, light, crispy, savoury, sublime. After that, the tarte flambee aux pommes was almost too much...L'Art du Fromage is a brilliant little place. Honest, wholehearted, fascinating, original and charming.

Lovely food, great portions, attentive friendly service. I really cannot fault this place. It is small and they have not crammed in the tables so it is a brilliant place to go if you want somewhere cosy and intimate where you don't have to shout to be heard.

This place is just great. I've been a few times now and never taken the time to write anything about it - just out of laziness to be honest. But our visit last week was so lovely that I just wanted to say a big well done to the restaurant and staff and chef and say that we'll be looking forward to returning.

Food, service and setting were absolutely fantastic.

Thanks L'Art du Fromage!

My girlfriend and I have been a couple times now and had an excellent experience each time. First time we had this huge cheese board that the owner, who also works there, cut and arranged and described to us in a great amount of detail. Lots of interesting varieties, many of which we had never tried, and a very enjoyable way to spend a couple hours. Last time we tried the fondue and were equally impressed by the taste and presentation. The owner is clearly an cheese enthusiast and he seems keen to share his passion with others.

If you like cheese, and we both love it, you need to try this place out!

My boyfriend took me there for my birthday and we had a wonderful time in there. The place is lovely, we had a table upstairs, in a little corner, it was very romantic.

Staff was very friendly and food was just delicious. We shared a goat cheese and salmon salad, and then we had the raclette. I had been waiting for so long for that and it was so yumi!

The waiter recommended a bottle of Sancerre to match the raclette and it really did.

I would definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for an authentic place to eat.

I went to this 'French' restaurant as a special treat for my sister. But i was very disappointed. I have eaten absolutely delicious tarte flambee in Alsace many times and this is one of my favourite foods. So I wanted my sister to try it too, but this was nothing like the original tarte flambee unfortunately. It had too much toppings. Service was average. Restaurant as such is cosy with good atmosphere. But a bit pretentious on the whole - no fizzy drinks. Drink too pricey.

I shall not return to eat here.

I made a reservation in November for a table in December for my boyfriend's Birthday- I wanted a table at 8pm, however was told that there ws only 2 sittings 6:30pm (?!) or 9:30pm, I opted for the latter and so I was very surprised to receive a phone call at around 7pm on the evening to say that we could come earlier if we wanted to- so it seems I could have had my 8pm slot after all!

When booking, nothing was mentioned to me about a Christmas menu, therefore when we arrived I was very disappointed to be given their Christmas menu with several of the cheese dishes (that I knew my boyfriend would love to try) missing, and to be offered lamb and duck instead!! We were also informed that they had had a very busy lunch and so they had no Brie de Meaux Pane left for starters nor any of the Escargots Du Chef- not a good start as I had made this reservation 4 weeks in advance, so they knew we were coming!! Also, I ordered the last plate of Assiette Du Marin, therefore if we had arrived any later we would have had just 2 starters to choose from!

When the food arrived it was good and my other half loved the 20 diifferent types of cheese- the waiter was helpful and informative and even wrote the name of the cheeses down that were our favourites. The Christmas menu also meant that the legendary cheese ice cream was not on offer, which again was very disappointing.

Overall the restaurant is a great idea, however I think they need to iron out a few of the issues that I have mentioned above as these partly ruined what I had hoped would be a fantastic evening for my cheese loving boyfriend!!

Came to this place as had read the reviews and it completely exceeded our expectations . The munster croquettes starter were delicious and great size portions . The charming waiter and waitress were helpful with the wines and really smiley. We had the Tarte flambee which was lovely - crisp base and lots of topping and not anywhere like your typical "pizza" - we also had a tartflette with chicken and plump morels - again delicious . Even though we were completely full we had to try the cheese ice cream - this was original and totally more-ish . Although not cheap , the price was reasonable for the quantity and quality and the service was perfect. Lovely romantic atmosphere . Definitely one of my London favourites !

If you love real french food you'll love this restaurant. Small and perfectly formed it delivers wonderful and unpretentious traditional food. The menu is not massive but it is the only menu I have seen in years where I literally want to eat every single thing on it. We have now been there four times working through the menu and so far have been impressed by every dish. There is a predominance of cheese dishes, as one would expect, but the non cheese dishes such as snails for first course and the main of lamb and ratatouille were also delicious.

Service was quick and friendly but unobtrusive.

I am so happy this restaurant has appeared, it has distinctly improved our local restaurant experience.

I read some reviews back on the Easter and they were giving this place 10/10. It was very misleading I'm afraid.

The place is not worth what I read in here that time. The food was average, the service so so and the coffee is terrible. They brought us an espresso that tasted like mud twice and we sent it back. They couldn't realise their coffee machine was broken.

I went there with family for a special day and the experience was average. Also, I like cosy places but whilst we were sat downstairs I didn't find it cosy or atmospheric at all. Green walls, low ceiling, nothing particularly nice about it.

I wouldn't go again, simply because it was overrated and my experience was pretty average.

My colleagues and I went there last night and weren't disappointed.

We 've all had starters from Fois Gras, munster bites and Asparagus and everyone liked them. For main we all went for a tartiflette jurassienne or le chasseur. I have had tartiflette before and when those arrived they really didn't look like tartiflette. Normally all the ingredients are mixed (like an omelette) but these arrived with all ingredients seperate. the potatoes were like a potato gratin and the meat came on the side. We were a bit disappointed and started to expect the worst. But it was a big surprise, it tasted absolutely gorgeous. The pork in le chasseur melted in your mouth. It really was lovely. ( we didn't try the fondue or raclette, so will have to go back again for those) After that we have had cheese platter, goat cheese ice cream, creme caramel and apple tarte with goat cheese and calvados, and everyone again was absolutely delighted by their afters. The cheese selection was great, the creme brulee was one of the best tasted, and the apple tarte was enormous (about a foot long - if realised we would have one for 2) and tasted great. The goat cheese ice cream was well worth trying as it didn't taste strong at all and more like a cheesecake taste. Would recommend to try.

Forgot to say that the apple tart wasn't on the menu that night (was weeks before) but when we mentioned it, it was no trouble for them to make it for us. The same we ask for more goat cheese ice cream so we could all try, and again nothing was too much trouble. Great service.

All in all I would recommend this place.

A Girl Has To Eat - 8/10

Monday, May 17, 2010 - We chose the munster pane. This consisted of several pieces of munster cheese coated in breadcrumbs and deep fried to a melted gooeyness. It was accompanied by some velvety smooth Bayonne ham and a beautifully dressed salad...From the tartiflette section we chose la jurassienne, a guinea fowl, Comte cheese and mushroom ragout combination. The guinea fowl was beautifully cooked, succulent and moist, and the potatoes gave way to that rustic flavour combination of ham, cheese and onion. The mushroom ragout, incorporating a variety of mushrooms such as ceps and girolles, was accomplished.

Cheese and Biscuits

Cheese and Biscuits - 7/10

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 - The Main Event was a Fondue Savoyarde, a mixture of Emmenthal, Comte and Beaufort cheeses presented theatrically with a flaming dose of kirsch liqueur. The bread was nicely toasted, only occasionally falling apart in the mixture, and the flavours of the cheeses really did create an interesting cocktail. Desserts were very French, and very good. Creme brulee was rich and creamy and served with not only a nice vanilla ice-cream but some gorgeous homemade lemon curd. The Ille Flotante was ethereally light.
