There hasn't been a time I went to the collection without having a good time!
I have never had dinner there, but have been to the bar several times. I love the fact that you can chose to treat it like a bar and chill with your drink, or put your drink down to start dancing, and neither would be considered odd! Music is quite up-beat. The high ceilings really help the ventilation, and the lighting is neither too dim nor too bright. A perfect balance between a funky bar and crazy night-club!

I certainly agree with your value rating of 3.9. I went there last wednesday and I loved the place, but the service was very disappointing and the food wasn't that impressive either. The chef's selection starter for 2 was ok and my lamb as main course was delicious. The chicken curry my friend had was ok, standard, the indian cheap shop down the road would have been the same - probably a quarter of the price. To be honest I found the service disgraceful. None of the waiters was attentive but they got confused and forgot a couple of things. They had a hint of attitude and were far from kind and smiley. I doubt I'll go there again anytime soon because it's definitely too expensive for what it is

Whenever I read reviews of bars/restaurants which say how someone has had a truly awful time, I think to myself it can't have been THAT bad, surely. But The Collection in Chelsea is my worst experience in London, and has reminded me why I never go out in that area.
I went there on Saturday 16th September for drinks and then were going to eat later. I expected the prices to be high but a total of £12 for two glasses of house and a coke (£3 itself!) was very steep. However, on top of this there was then an automatically added 'discretionary' 15% service charge (£1.81). This is added even when you buy your drinks at the bar, presumably because it takes a phenomenal amount of effort to pour three drinks and push them 20 centimetres towards you. They gave the money back after I queried it, but I saw no-one else doing this on this very busy Saturday night. There are massive screens showing only fashion shows and cavorting women, the DJing was poor and very loud for the restaurant, the clientele typically moneyed and impolite - one guy insincerely said 'well, sorry but that's what happens in a busy bar' when I politely queried his cigarette burning my shoulder.
My perverse enjoyment of how utterly superficial and cynical this bar is was compounded when I tried to go to the loo. A well-dressed man held me and another chap back, strangely saying 'this is how problems start', I guessed indicating it was too busy inside. But 60 seconds later he let us into a very large, nearly empty and trouble-free toilet. I asked the attendant (of course they have an attendant!) what this was all about. He said it was the bodyguard of someone using the loo, and there was another one inside. So I was stopped from using the loo by some rich man and his retinue. This says everything you need to know about this place. If you're stinking rich (or pretending), arrogant and concerned only with image, then this is the bar for you. Otherwise AVOID! (PS after all this we unsurprisingly did not decide to eat there).

I have been in the collection this saturday and I have enjoyed it a lot. The food was great and the waiters took good care of us. The music was a bit loud, but in general I liked the atmosphere.

Good good and well presented. Nicely atmosphere and stylish. Smallish portipons and food overpriced. Several mistakes with credit card resulting in overcharge including a careless attempt at charging more on card than we requested. Had to return to the restaurant to resolve problem. Staff rude in dealing with refund. Writing to restaurant requesting compensation.

I went to the collection on 8th July 2006 and I had a great time. Yes the food was a little expensive, but the service was 1st class and the cocktails were out of this world. The only down side was that I had a little trouble hearing my date as the music was quite loud. However, good food, good drinks and great music and the service great.

I will save time by saying that all the below reviews about indifferent service and rude doormen are quite accurate. As for the prices, I realise it is wrong to complain about a place being expensive (£10 for a Long Island Iced Tea) as it is entirely one's choice whether or not to go there, I do believe that if I am spending double digits on a cocktial, I am entitled to expect that it will be well prepared and served with pride and grace. My L.I.T. tasted like coke and a combination of watered-down, indistinguishable liquors. Very very disappointing, though the atmosphere during the world-cup final was quite enjoyable. They had a live Bongo-player to drum roll before the penalty kicks, and good dance music during breaks in play...

It was impossible to hear what my date was saying over the ridiculous loud music. Not a problem for me in a bar situation but when you are expected to spend that much money on a meal it is a bit much. Staff rude and unhelpful too. Can't make up its mind whether it wants to be a trendy bar or a trendy restaurant. Either way, it ends up as an untrendy, unfriendly, cold expensive place. Wouldn't be going back
