Went here for an evening meal on August 3rd 2011. A balmy evening and were lucky to get a table outside, although Chiswick High Street is a noisy road to eat next to ! Moules marniere with frites was an excellent main course. Creme Brulee to follow, less successful, with a gooey/cloying caramelised top.. They were busyish due to fine evening weather but as often seems the case these days service somewhat deteriorated after the first order. Pricey drinks.

How disappointed I was with this place. When I arrived, as I was on my own and all the free tables were for 4 people, I was asked if I would like to sit in the "shop" area as opposed to with all the others in the restaurant part. I refused as I would have been all on my own out there!

I was then asked if I would like bread and olives to start with which I readlly agreed to only to get the bill later and find that the cost just for a few hard pieces of bread (not French bread) was £3.60 which I consider to be outrageous. (This excluded the cost of the olives) Isn't bread normally free at French restaurants?

Then I had mussels which were much smaller than you would normally expect and felt ill the following day! I assume it was the muscles but who knows??

Sorry but I won't be returning. There are so many restaurants to choose from on Chiswick High Road and I'll give this one a miss from now on

Chiswick-ites must love brasserie food, because there are several similar establishments on the same street within a half mile of one another. Everything was pleasant enough at Villandry Kitchen. The menu isn't terribly exciting, but my burger was good. Not sure it was £12 good, but I wasn't paying. Decor and atmosphere isn't as cool as across the street at High Road Brasserie, but we wanted somewhere relaxed where we could talk, so it fit the bill. Short but decent wine list, if you like French wines. Couldn't really recommend the place, but nothing about it was bad either.

Went in on a Sunday afternoon, feeling slightly hungover and needing something warm and comforting before hitting the shops. Ordered the croque-monsieur with a side of fries. Best croque-monsieur I've had, and that's including the ones I've tried in France and Switzerland. There was a perfect amount of bechamel sauce in the middle, and the rest of the ingredients were clearly good quality. Fries were very good too. It seems strange to go on about what is essentially a cheese and ham sandwich, but when it's made right, it is a thing of beauty.

Anyway, the hostess was friendly and accomodating, the waiter was nice - the atmosphere is that of a relaxed bistro although I'm sure it gets more noisy at peak hours. There is also a deli/coffee bar section before you get to the sit-sown restaurant bit where they do good coffee to take out and a selection of authentic, albeit overpriced french deli goods - recommend the Comté, a sweet, nutty hard cheese which goes far too well with a glass of red.
