Five of us had a very successful lunch on a Sunday. It's very much a pub with good food rather than a restaurant, and much the better for it. Reading the previous reviews, everybody seems to agree that the food is great, but have qualms with the service. During our visit, the staff were all very helpful. They didn't banter or gush about the wisdom of our choices, but they turned up with what we'd asked for and said goodbye when we left. A really nice place.

A "real" gastropub - no frills - order at the bar. Staff are a bit irreverant, but if you engage them in a discussion about the food or wine, they absolutely come alive. Our bartender got so excited, he was bringing complimentary wine over to the table for us to try with our meal (on top of the wine we had already ordered).

Mains were tasty - ok. Apps were AMAZING (if it's still on the menu - get either the antipasta plate or the bruchetta with goats cheese and pesto - yum!).

Love this place - will be back.

We had heard good things about this pub. And went tonight for the first time. When you walk in, the first impression is a gastro pub but not with any frills. In fact, the original wooden panelling makes the place look more like a traditional pub than a trendy gastro pub.

We arrived at 7.45 and the place was full. We got lucky and a great table in the corner became available almost immediately. This is the pot luck element to the pub, and I can imagine having problems getting a table especially if you are a large group (we were two).

I don't see why other reviewers complain about the service. This is a pub. The bar staff are bar staff. They are not fawning waiters. If you want great service, go to a restaurant, not a pub. Anyway, enough of that.

The main reason we were there was the food and we both ordered Italian sausages with mash (they accomodated us fine on the mash as they were meant to be new potatoes as per the menu). They were great. Really very good.

So I would say a small, fairly traditional looking pub with great food. Some of the other diners were talking far too loudly, but hey, some people like a lively atmosphere.

We would recommend it if you were in the area.

Our party consisted of 3 adults and two children. We arrived at 18:45 The barstaff served all of us our drinks and then proceded to tell us that the children had to be out by 19:00. As we had heard such good things about the pub we decided to send the kids home with a pizza from an excellent place down the road and order food for ourselves. I went to the bar at a couple of minutes before seven o'clock and asked for a menu so we could see what was on offer. Immediatly I was told that I couldnt have a menu until seven at which I protested and was referred to the evening manager who begrudgingly gave me a menu telling me that he didnt like people ordering too soon in the evening. We eventually ordered some food and I asked if I could have my steak cooked in garlic and black pepper and could I buy the chef a drink for taking the extra trouble. I was told by the manager after again being referred to him by the cluless barstaff that he didnt want to bother the chef and that I would have to have my steak as it comes.

The waiting time was fine and the waitress was really nice even bringing us extra bread. The only complaint I have about the food was that I asked for my steak to be medium rare but was given a steak that had no colour whatsoever. Everyone else seemed to very much enjoy their meals. Its a shame that a pub with such a reputation for excellent food and service turned out to be a let down. I for one will never be drinking let alone eating there again.

Bar staff were rude and made us feel unwelcome but the food was excellent even though my steak was overcooked

Mmmm. This place is lovely. I'm from the Notting Hill area and this is better than anything we have over there. Lovely atmosphere and really scrummy food for piggy bank prices - what more could a girl want?

Superb superb superb! Best experience yet in dining in a London pub. We arrived at 7.30pm and found a table near the open fire. It filled up almost immediately afterwards so we were lucky - you cannot book. Great, open buzzy atmosphere but not so loud you couldnt have a conversation. Excellent wine list. Great beers. The food was amazing. Opened witha £7 antipasti plate withe celery remoulade, chicken liver pate and sardines. Im a remoulade agnostic but this one converted me. It was stunning with just the right balance. The pate was first class and the sardines were suitably sardiney. The main course was salt-marsh lamb. It was stunning. Cooked perfectly pink and tasted devine. Wine was their top red Nine Popes Shiraz Mourvedre Grenache. At £29 it was dear for a pub but then this wine will cost £22 in an off licence (if you can find it) so the mark up was great. There was also an excellent range of prices on the wine list and you can get around 15 wines by the glass as well. Staff were totally attentive, smiling, helpful. A great experience. Amazing value - two mains and one (huge) starter cost £30!

I live down the road from the Atlas and although I am slightly biased, it is without a doubt the best pub food in London. The staff are nice and the food is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone as a great place to go for a meal or a drink.
