I am bewildered that anyone would complain about the service here. It's a self-service restaurant, and they make a point of this - to keep the prices down.
Basically, it's a "does what it says on the tin" kind of place. Big portions of hearty, authentic food at low prices, with a decent choice and daily specials. Service is non-existent, but you get your food quickly, and you can have a really large and satisfying main course for five pounds.
No one is going to pretend that the Elephant shopping centre is a lovely spot, but this is a welcome addition to the local landscape and at these prices deserves to do well. It has a strong Polish following, but menus are in English and there's certainly no problem with not being Polish here.
Overall, excellent value, and recommended.

The food is ok but the service is horrible. I asked if I could get 5 fruit dumplings for 3 pounds (in the menu as starter: 1/2 pierogi- normally you get 10 dumplings for a fiver) and the lady said: of course! Two other friends I was with got their food and my dumplings arrived shortly after. The only thing was, there were only 4 instead of 5. I went back to the counter, the lady apologized and gave my plate back to the kitchen staff. Then she got it back and tried to explain that there is an error in the menu and you actually only get 4 dumplings if you choose the ones with a fruit filing. I was really disappointed and regretted not taking 10, as the 4 I got were really small. I got back to the table. My boyfriend decided to speak to the manager about our complaint. The manager said that most of the customers understood that when you take fruit dumplings you only get 4 even though the menu said 5. (pure logic! fruit are more expensive than meat, said the manager). Also he said that printing menus is expensive, so they didn't manage to correct the error yet. Maybe they should then remove the menus and just write the menu on a big board? Or train their staff properly? Was not giving me one dumpling worth losing at least 3 customers? Even though the portions were small, the food was value for money. Such a shame that the customer service and the overall management of the place is so poor.

Living nearby Elephant and Castle I thought one night I might pop in and try a meal. I have been to Poland many times and know what to expect in terms of authenticity and taste. However, looking at the price I was not expecting too much. But I was left very surprised when I tried the food, it was tasty, fresh and their portions are good too.
The staff are very friendly and speak English to a very high standard. They told me about events they hold during certain days of the week such as live music nights. I have since gone back many times and not just for the food, it is very lively place.
This is a Polish restaurant with a difference.

Good wholesome Polish food. Potions are huge and filling, but very tasty. Service very friendly. A great place for a casual meal.

a recreation of the subsidised workers canteens under communism in Poland.
the food is great but if there are a few of you, choose different things as a whole main course can be a bit stodgy if you are not used to the style. it is always well prepared and the prices are sooo reasonable. they have a couple of veggie mains but you can always choose a few of the sides at £1 each too. The soup changes daily and always has a veggie option. I love this place and keep going back. The horseradish soup and the gherkin soup were both a revelation. Lots of polish people seem to frequent the place. The staff are very friendly. It's in the Elephant shopping centre but don't let that put you off. for all the bad press, it's a lively multicultural mix of a place and worth a visit as it's by no means anodyne like the fancy malls.
Mamuska is a superb place to try Polish food.
