The Swan

We walked to this pub all the way from Putney. It was a beautiful evening and we had a lovely walk along the river with our one year old daughter. Yes, we were bringing our baby with us but she is beautifully behaved (no, really!) and falls asleep in her stroller as mummy and daddy get stuck into their food and drinks.
We called up before we left home to say we were coming for dinner and did they have a high chair and space for a stroller. Yes, was the answer. So we trotted along merrily, walking through the grotty bits of Acton Lane to get to The Swan. I was starving by the time we got there and the waiter smiled brightly at me as I stepped in. I could see people sitting out eating in the garden and it looked lovely. Then my husband walked in with the baby and the waiter said 'Oh, sorry no babies after 7pm' after which I smacked his bottom with a frozen lamb chop and expressed my displeasure at having walked for over an hour only to be told No Food At The Inn If You Bring Your Baby. Well, he could have told me that over the phone. We did phone ahead to ask (although it was my husband that did the calling I might add)
So, lessons learnt from this episode; a) never assume that the foreign waiter on the phone understands that when you say you are coming for dinner this evening and ask if they have a high chair and space for a stroller, you mean you are coming for dinner and bringing a baby. He could perhaps have assumed I was very short. I'm not; b) Never let your husband make important calls.
No idea about the food. Sorry. And the bit about the lamb chop is entirely fictional.

Oh My God this is the best reaturant/pub suprise and food we've had in London....heard it was good but for a very nice change was even better than we were expecting. Great service lovely bar staff and the food was amazing...the Pub is a lovely little place as well and look forward to going in summer with the beer garden....There were four of us which had salads and antipasto to start and then Steaks and Shanks with lovely Veg sides and a cheese plate at the end with a great wine selection...well impressed and all we can say is ....Fantastic!!

I LOVE this place!.
The food is a cut above standard pub fare, with a mediteranean twist on some classic dishes (Tuscan sausages with a Garlic Celeriac and Parsnip mash an example).
On top of that a very well thought out wine list with a great selection, someone obviously likes a drop there!
Although I live on the other side of London I try and go at least once a month as it's a joy to spend an evening in this friendly pub.

What a great place to eat. Good atmospher, good service and the food is not too pricey for the Chiswick area.

A little gem of a pub, consistently good food from a varying menu, which will (hopefully) remain undiscovered and difficult to find so that local residents can keep it to themselves! Beer garden one of the best.
