We came here for the Meatwagon (by far London's best burger) but have been back several times since because the pub food is good in its own right. There's simple stuff like fish finger sarnies but if you only order one thing, it MUST be the buttermilk fried chicken. Served in a basket. Retro, love it. You can tell someone in the kitchen gives a damn. Everything we ate was great.
Best pub in Herne Hill by far.

Will Eat For Money
Friday, May 21, 2010 - I was really here to try out the Florence's burger. Two patties (about four ounces each, I would say), mature cheddar, lettuce, onions, sliced gherkins and a couple of sauces on the side. The 21 day aged chuck had a good beefy flavour, and it was seasoned well, with appropriate levels of salt and pepper. Despite being a Kraft Singles fan, the mature cheddar was a welcome accompaniment, working well with the aged beef - the musky notes complementing each other...With great ales on tap, a superb beer garden and an amazing pub dog, the Florence is a firm favourite of mine already.
A Rather Unusual Chinaman
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 - To drink, I sampled a pint of their 'Bonobo' ale. Home brewed in their very own micro brewery, the fruity and malty ale got my taste buds tingling. We were given a basket of buttermilk fried chicken, served with a tangy coleslaw dip. Light and nigh on grease free, the batter had a deep smokiness and the chicken was astonishingly tender. This was great chicken...I love the Florence. It's a fab pub and ticks almost all the criteria I search for in a decent 'local'.
