Went to the Butcher and Grill for a meal on the 7th January and were extremely disapointed and disgusted by the behaviour of the manager which was a shame as the food was delicious.

When we arrived we ordered a glass of wine and were given a complimentary basket of bread but my husband accidentally spilled his whole glass of untouched wine over the table and bread, the manager then came to our table and cleared everything and left with no offer of more wine or bread... we then had to ask a waitress for another glass. When we received our bill we were not too pleased that we had been charged for the spilled glass of wine and felt that as we were being charged an extra 12.5% optional service charge we ought to take the cost of the wine off this. When the waitress came to take payment we explained this to her and she then got her manager who stormed over to us and leaned directly into my husbands face and ranted at him about the fact that if he spilled his wine he would PAY for said wine! The manager then marched off and we were left sitting with no bill and quite flabbergasted by his behaviour! I will never go back to this restaurant.

We went Saturday evening.

First the plus points: The waiters and managers. The bakewell tart. The Largesse Sauvignan Blanc. The manager. The service was very good, attentive, not too slow and down to the friendliness and professionalism of B&G's Wimbledon manager.

The negatives: The steaks just aren't a patch on the Hawksmoor or Gaucho, maybe the B&G need to look at how Gaucho's cook their Argentine beef. The soup ( lobster bisque ) *must* have been brought to the boil because it was just too hot to eat. They should dump the french fries idea.

£9.50 for three small scallops, come on B&G give us a couple more.

Oh and take a jumper/fleece it can get a bit chilly in there.

Overall great service but steak quality and cooking method needs improving.

We ate here for the first time last night, and I have to say that I was left with a sense of disappointment, especially considering the amount we paid.

Firstly, the good points. The steaks were excellent - good portions, well seasoned, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. Definitely would go back for more.

Disappointing aspects include the chips that were included with the steaks. There were four of us, and each of us got a different amount, but all of us not enough. Also, some were soggy and others tasted old.

The bread that we got at the start of the meal was paltry. We ended up asking for more and then some more when our friends arrived.

The starters, for the price we were charged, were very small and not quite representative of the description on the menu. I had the thyme roasted butternut squash salad with goats cheese. There was hardly any goats cheese, let alone the thyme from the butternut squash (of which there was very little anyway...).

The desserts weren't much better. The apple and blackberry crumble had way too much crumble and not enough apple or blackberry.

All in all, if you were to go and simply have the steak (plus the small portion of chips), then I think the price would justify a visit. However, I definitely felt as though we were significantly overcharged for substandard produce on the starters and the desserts. Further, the service was pretty poor and although we sat down at 8pm, by the time we ordered, they'd run out of several items that we wanted to choose, from the starter menu and eventually the dessert menu also. So go for the steaks and give the remainder of the menu a wide berth.
