Kulu Kulu Sushi (Shelton St)

they have nice, fresh raw fish in house... the salmon is one of the best i have seen in england...
however, if you are a traditional sushi lover, don't go there to try, since the sushi rice is horrible. they didnt put enough rice vinegar in there on the day i went in... and the rice didnt maintain its shape when i pick it up... we created a mess when we eat...
but, do recommend udon for a heavier eater to fill their spaces, £3.10 for a small bowl ( acutally around a size of a typical instant noodle in japan, around 100g) with 2 pieces of tempura veg and 1 piece of tempura prawn.
furthermore, they currently have 10% off for lunch and dinner. therefore, we only need to pay around £22 for 2ppl (2 bowl of udon, 4 plates of sushi & 1plate of sashimi, & 2drinks which worth £2each)
worth going to try.

I have seen a few reviews on here that said bad things about the place, but you must sometimes see things for what they are and judge them accordingly. This is by no feat of the imagination a five start Sushi restaurant, and the prices DO get reflected in that.
So if you are a bit of a Sushi perfectionist this is not going to be the place for you.
However, if you are someone who appreciates good sushi, freshly made in front of your own eyes, in a smaller, cosy, clean rotating style sushi restaurant this is defiantly worth a try. The Restaurant is located conveniently close to Covent Garden, it took me and my friend 3 minutes from the station. The staff were friendly and I thought for what you get, the price is actually very cheap. We had 12 plates from the rotating belt (mixed) and two beers for £28.20, which is a steal compared to “Itsu” and price up very well to “Yo Sushi” where I often feel you’re just paying for the experience to sit in a over decorated restaurant, which will naturally bump up the price. I did think that some of the dishes could have been fresher, but if you go on a day where there is a high turnover, i.e. during the evening you’re bound to eliminate this problem. Worth a visit!

Fantastic! Had a lovely family outing to this restaurant, food was great and the staff really made an effort to look after us, in spite of our obvious sushi bar inexperience! Great value, too. Would recommend.

I do love this sushi place. It has become a regular sushi bar for my friends and I to visit.
Affordable prices, good sushi, good service. Unlimited green tea - FREE.

Went with a friend here instead of the usual Yo! Sushi. Verdict: this is much better. Admittedly I do not have much experience of other Sushi restaurants, but the food was fresh and what we couldn't see on the belt they were more than happy to make. I'm guessing complaints on other reviews may be to do with certain ingredients simply not being available. (Perhaps the one downside is not as large a menu as Yo!, especially in terms of hot dishes)
Will definitely go again, and I concurr with the reviewer who recommended the Soft Crab Hand Roll - delicious!

This is one of the best value and best quality Sushi restaurants in London. Before you start taking dishes off the belt, familiarise yourself with the charge for each plate and you will see that many of the best dishes are only 1.20 . This means that you can easily enjoy a full sushi meal for two for twenty to twenty five pounds. For example, an excellent Ngiri salmon will cost 1.20 as will a superb agadashi tofu - two large cubes of freshly fried tofu in a delicious broth. Prawn and salmon tempura hand rolls are also a specialty. The only fault I have found over the countless visits are the edamame beans, which are sometimes a little over cooked and have lost their vibrant greenness. I think that the reviewer who gave this 2/10 probably doesn't understand sushi and would be better sticking to Macdonalds.

Kuku Kulu is one of my favourite japanese convoyer belt restaurant. The staff is always helpfull and nice. I work nearby and come here once a week or more! contrary to the review of one of the lady, this is not expensive at all. The minimum price is £1.20 and you can have mackerel, salmon, octopus, squid for 2 nigiri. The tofu with spicy sauce is one of my favourite and it s only £1.20! like mentioned in one of the reviews, the salmon/avocado/prawn tempura is superb. Definetly a great place to eat cheap food if you are in a rush or after a hard day of shopping or work! love it!

As Gilu-Gulu, one of my favorite Japanese spot has permanently closed las 17th of December, I decided to taste Kulu Kulu, after reading comments on this website.
Just one comment: POOR, I would not recommend it at all, low quality and expensive food (26£ for 8 sushis plates and a beer!), very limited choice on the conveyor belt, expect these strange dishes you don't know where it comes from, certainly not from Japanese cuisine, table set not that clean and so on, and so on. It was my first and last time here, next please!
