our review

Inspired by the street food of Hong Kong and Saigon, Panda Panda specialises in Oriental-styled baguettes (bahn mi), salads, snacks, and desserts. The cafe also serves bubble tea and milkshakes, as well as offering free wi-fi.

TimeOut - 3/5

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 - Traditional to the core, with slices of gelatinous rolled pork (cha lua) and Vietnamese ham, stuffed to the brim with tart radish and carrot pickle, cucumber, crushed peanuts, fresh coriander and a sprinkling of umami-heavy Maggi seasoning, Panda Panda's banh mi is utterly pleasing...From the cheerful cartoon panda logo, bright colours and friendly staff to the fun menu (where flowering leaf tea is whimsically called 'dancing tea' and you can have milkshakes made with chocolate bars), Panda Panda is a bright spark on the otherwise dreary and grey Deptford Broadway.

This place is great - have been there several times and always enjoyed myself. I think everything on the menu is under £4 so you can't go wrong. Don't know what reviewer Laura below is on about - there are a lot more than 2 tables in there.

It's great to finally find a local place that sells banh mi without having to travel far and beyond! I have visited Panda Panda a few times and they never cease to disappoint me.

I always have the char siu banh mi and each time it tastes just as good at the first time I tried it. I've also tried the mint aero milkshake and the mango sago pudding. The milkshake was delicious and made from fresh ice cream and a chocolate bar of your choice. I'd definately be trying out more of the milkshakes once the weather warms up! The mango pudding was lovely too and not many other places do this dessert so it was a good find for me. The cafe has 5 tables so there's seating if you want to eat in.

Panda Panda is a cosy little place with reasonable prices and good service. I have recommended this place to my friends and family and will definately return to try out the other items on the menu.

When a friend 1st showed me their menu / leaflet is dull and was designed by a child. This is not a sophisticated place to lunch or dine out. The lunch time offer does not specify a time.

They have pictures of Cadbury's and other chocolates which are not allowed unless they have their consent because they could get done (copyright). Someone please warn them.

They have 2 tables in there which makes you feel cramped and claustrophobic I’m afraid to say. You can’t bring your friend in there with you.

The food is okay, I enjoy salads and baguette however, I find it overpriced and bearing in mind it is in Deptford (not central London). It did not satisfy my taste buds or hunger. The bubble tea is made with artificial flavouring and water which makes it taste nasty. The milkshake is overpriced seeing as its milk and a chocolate bar mashed together.

They need a new overlook at their business. Good luck.

saw a blog review of this place last week and decided to pay a visit as its near my flat. can i just say how good it is to have bubble tea in deptford!! no more long tube rides to chinatown for me. bahn mi was totally yum, really good fresh filling and excellent bread. it has to be not too crispy but still with bite, much lighter than french baguette but similar style.

you can eat here for less than £10 and be properly full. they even do chocolate bar milkshakes! go, go, go!

what the bloggers say

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

Friday, April 16, 2010 - Each baguette is made to order and as banh mi go (I am far from an aficionado), I thought they were pretty decent. Filled with pickled veg soused in fish sauce, hints of chilli and filled with pork, a simple but delicious meal. We also decided to try the fish ball, which unlike many fish balls I have tried, actually still retained some flavour of fish, and the pork noodle salad which was pretty average and probably my least favourite dish of the evening. Desserts of mango sago and tofu fa (soft tofu in sugar syrup, basically) finished us off and we waddled off into the night, just as Panda Panda started getting busy.
