The chippie is currently closed due to George the owner being seriously ill. We are all thinking of him and his family at what must be a very difficult and distressing time.

I travel from Sweden quite regularly and have done so over the last 16 years. The reviewer who recommended that we avoid this place is deluded and or mistaken. Broadway Place has, over each and every year offered cleanliness next to Godliness, Fresh caught and freshly cooked fish served with a genuine love of the craft. If you want seriously top quality Fish & Chips simply travel to Wimbledon Station, it’s then a few seconds from you.

I went there the other night with my husband and some friends, and we had a lovely meal. The fish and chips were tasty and fresh and crisp, the mushy peas were really nice, and the bottle of wine was very good value. We are all pensioners, and we felt the lady who served us looked after us very well, making us feel very special. I think we'll be going back there again!

Like Tony below used to be I am a student at Wimbledon School of Art and I go to Broadway every few weeks usually if I've been working late at the school. I went there last night. I always feel welcome and I always get well fed and I always leave with a big smile on my face. My Mum and Dad came down from Harrogate recently to stay for the weekend and I brought them into the Art School to see the stuff I'd been doing, and then to Broadway afterwards and they loved it too. Good food, good prices, and good service.

We were there last night, me and my girlfriend, and I had rock and chips and she had cod and chips and mushy peas and we had a bottle of white wine and it was all abolsutely lovely. Everything was spot on. We saw out fish going into the fryer, it wasn't into a microwave. And it wasn't mad expensive, and the lady who serve us was nice. We just moved into the area, and will deffo be back again.

Okay, let's get a few things straight here. Firstly, Broadway Place has been under the same management for over 20 years, so I'm not quite sure where the previous reviewer got his info from for his charming review.
Secondly, the fish and chips they serve are fantastic! Always properly cooked - NEVER MICROWAVED - you often see the queue building up as they freshly fry them up and people wait because...they're the best fish and chips in town.
The service in both the restaurant area and take away area is always friendly and courteous. You can see that they have a lot of loyal, regular customers, who've been coming back to them for years. That should really tell you all you need to know about their standard of service and food available. Go try it!

AVOID THIS PLACE!!
The previous reviewers went there 2-3 years ago when it was under different management and used to be nice..
NOW IT SUCKS! The woman at the till who ran it was miserable towards me so that annoyed me a little. The food was just bloody awful!!
Fish was mushy inside, batter was soggy at the bottom and the ends were chewy and rubbery IT WAS MICROWAVED!!! and the small amount of chips I got with it were equally microwaved and disgusting.
Worst of all I paid over £8.50 for this muck and have never forgiven myself for paying up and not complaining, which is why I'm writing this review out of sheer frustration :(
Once again do not go here! Especially to the restaurant.

After a show down the road at the Art School, five of us went to the Broadway, and I have to say it was just brilliant. Rock salmon, cod, haddock, scampi, served quickly and smoothly by a very nice waitress, were all excellent, came with very good mushy peas and perfect tripled fried chips (and the portions were very generous indeed), and a couple of bottles of nice Chardonnay. One of the best fish and chippers in S London, in my opinion.

Watch the portion size... They have 3 sizes, small, medium and large. For large you will pay £2.40 but this is really just a normal portion of chips depending on who serves you. I bought a "large" portion for my son tonight only to be dished up a normal portion. I asked if it was large and was told yes. I told the gentleman that it was not and that when I am served by the lady she gives me a large portion. I asked what a small size was which was ridiculous when he showed me.
Basically, this shop does not have any competition in the vicinity which is why they rip people off on prices and portion sizes. They need competition and quite frankly I think I might think about giving them something to think about.
Personally I would have expected an apology and a correction to the size but I was all but called a liar.
I have taken pictures of the portion size and as soon as I can work out who to complain to about this shop I will be sending in the evidence.
