our review

The London Wall Bar & Kitchen is the latest venture from Ben and Hugo Warner (Benugo). Head chef Olivier Dhainqut has devised a British all-day dining menu, with ingredients sourced from Smithfield Market and local producers. City slickers can feast on the 10oz Angus burger, Cornish lamb with mint jelly, and a selection of salads and sandwiches.

Went for dinner on Tuesday 7 June 2011. Enjoyed the surroundings, but the food was underpar and over-priced.

Starter of duck terrine was tasteless; it had no taste whatsoever.

Main of gnocchi was reminiscent of a student "chuck it all together and bung in some cheese" creation.

When the bill came, my friend asked me if I was paying by cash or card, and the waitress chimed in with "I would say that service is NOT included". Poor form!

As a Barbican resident, I was willing this place to be good. Disappointed.

My husband and myself visited London Wall Bar & Restaurant yesterday with four of our neighbours – we are all Barbican residents so the location is very convenient.

The restaurant is very airy and spacious and we were given a big table in the front of the restaurants. The food was excellent. I had whitebait with garlic mayonnaise which was delicious and followed this by the burger – perfect. Other people at the table had fish and chips and duck, both dishes were pronounced perfect. One in our group ordered the Steak & Ale pie and was later told that there was none left – the restaurant did not charge him for his replacement main course. I shared a sticky toffee pudding which was divine.

The young lady who served our table was extremely attentive and very nice and the bill represented real value for money.

I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant and will certainly be back.
