I moved to the area 4 years ago and frequently go to Costas after work. Its very reasonable to consider it a second kitchen away from home and the food in my opinion as a Cypriot living in the diaspora is as authentic as it gets.

Yes as the other authors have written, the decor is dated- that's part of the charm and magic of Costas, it doesn't pretend to be something it isnt and exceeds expectations in delivering delicious Greek Cypriot staples at (very surprising given the area) prices.

The restaurant look bad, the furniture probably dates back to the seventies. The toilet was regrettable. Mr.Costa is a very nice and kind man. Starters were ok, even if one was forgotten and delivered after the main dish. The main dishes were not very good. I had a chicken which was absolutely tasteless and the rice was terrible. At least the bill was not very high, but I had better deals for the same price.

Yes, the decor is crushingly dated. Yes, the food is great. And good value. No, you don't need to book on Saturday nights.

But what you don't know. And are finding out first on London-Eating! The 'grill' will be serving the same superb FISH & CHIPS & mushy peas that (the brother of the owner) used to sell from his much beloved (by eccentric locals and celebrities alike) fish & chip shop next door, before he retired a short while ago, after 50 years of service.

Until the add fish & chips to the menu you have to ASK FOR IT! Do so. You will not be disappointed.

The chippie has been gutted, destined soon to become a Japanese sushi parlour. If that lasts 50 months it will be a miracle.

We have tried several Greek restaurants in London and so far Costa's is our favourite by far. Their taramasalata and octopodi are just the best. Staff are always friendly and helpful with suggestions when asked. The dishes we go for there are the kleftiko, chicken pilaf and dolmades (meat in vine leaves) with rice. These must be their signature dishes because the flavours are simply fantastic. We have taken several lots of friends there and they have always been highly impressed with the food there. Totally recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in Greek food.

Was out last night with the boys for a few cheekies in Notting Hill. We decided to eschew the obvious curry or pizza and head to Costa's grill for some hearty food and few bottles of Keo. The place was packed but the owner who usually runs their fish and chip shop next door found us a table and we settled down to some good greek cypriot fayre. We started with an Ouzo each and some Humus, tamarasalata, halloumi and squid. Portions were fair, the dips delicious and all washed down with some lovely Keo though it could have been a bit colder. For mains we went for Kleftiko (Big Matt) and soulvaki ( Boro Tim and myself). They were very good, Matt's kleftiko in particular looked impressive. We followed this with a shot of zivania (great for sending the food on it's way) and some great greek coffee.

The restaurant itself is very much stuck in a time warp but I like it that way. The wood panelling and formica tables give you a hint of yesteryear. Everyone is packed in close but that gives it an intimate clubby atmosphere. in fact when we started to discuss the plight of Tim's beloved Boro team the guy sat next to us pitched in. He turned out to be none other than former Boro legend Alan Ramage! The bill worked out at about £35 each which was good value for what we had eaten and drank. The boys were very impressed and were singing it's praises well into our nightcap at the Uxbridge Arms.
