I don't know what's happened to this place, but whatever it is, it's been disastrous and it's a real shame. Having been eating at BV on a fairly frequent basis since we moved to Wimbledon in 2006, it used to be great - friendly service, great food, good ambience etc. Now it's all gone horribly wrong and we'll never be returning...

We went last night (early evening on a Saturday), and it was clear immediately that something was different. Previously, we've always been greeted warmly, had our coats taken, and been asked if we'd like a drink as soon as we sat down. Last night, the greeting was brusque, there was no offer to take coats, and it took several attempts to attract the attention of a waitress to get a drink. We ordered a bottle of plonk and some tap water - she bought bottled water, and when I pointed out the mistake, I was told by the French (!) waitress that "zis ees steel water, ees same as tap". Um, not really...

In the grand scheme of things, this ain't so bad - worse things happen, etc. But when we finally did get some food brought to the table, it was not what we'd ordered, and it was bordering on inedible (dim sum clearly bought in frozen, chicken satay deep fried, dry and covered in something that looked like a combination of Bisto gravy and an unfortunate accident in tramp's trousers...).

We asked to see the manager, made it clear we were deeply unhappy and that we were leaving. His response - "fine, you go". Couldn't have given less of a toss if he'd tried. Given that a meal for two inc. a bottle of wine is likely to set you back at least £120, I think it's reasonable to except the manager to show the slightest interest in a dissatisfied customer - but he clearly wasn't remotely bothered...

I realise this review makes me sound like an uptight old git who probably deserved to be treated like rubbish, but I'm fairly certain I'm not... I'm not the review-writing type, but on this occasion I'm sufficiently annoyed and disappointed to waste a few minutes typing it up.

Simply put - don't go here. Save your money, get a takeaway.

We had a very tasty meal at Bayee Village in Wimbledon Village. The restaurant was bustling on a Wednesday evening and we did have to remind the waitress to bring our green tea, but otherwise service was good. The squid starter was too salty for my taste, but the sizzling beef was tender and tasty and the vegetable dishes were excellent (if rather expensive). Overall, a good meal and better than most local Chinese restaurants.
