The food was the best i have ever had i am 48 years old and indain has been my favourite seen i was a child and i got to say i have had nothing better. As you enter Kiplings there is a stunning bar where you can sit and drink and eat free penuts and olives while you watch a pianist perform. the staff are very kind and show you to your table. as you look though the menu you see your average types of food korma, tiki malasla but when you order it and taste it, it feels like your in heaven. i highly recomanded this place to anyone who is thinking of going.

Having lived just down the road from Kipling's for about 2 years, I have to say it is one of the gems in the largely chain-dominated Highgate area. It has fresh and imaginative Indian food, at fair prices (a little more than your average takeaway, but this place is SO much better than your average), and provides a great change for an evening out.
We usually either book for special dinners or order a takeaway (the lounge/bar area is great to sit in to wait for a takeaway) for an indulgent treat in--again, so much better than the average curryhouse!

We went to Kipling's a month or so ago.
The 4 of us ordered various dishes including a flambe from 'the flambe unit' mainly because of the amusing name.
Food wasn't the best or worst we'd ever had, but, it was expensive so we were a little disappointed with the average-ness.
We had a confusion of people around our table, all asking the same questions, and turning up minutes apart. Are you ready to order? Are you ready to order?
I have to agree with the previous review in that one waiter (a large old guy) was incredibly rude. He was positively annoyed we weren't ready to order despite being asked the same question a minute before. Later in the meal he thought nothing of barging us out the way while we were eating to collect plates and so forth.
The final insult was the £4 charge for 'sundries' which turned out to be a couple of poppadums we had been given whilst waiting for our table.
Overall we are unlikely to return.

Went there two weeks ago - The food was nice but one waiter was so rude I would be wary of going back.

I've been going to Kiplings for 4 years now. It used to be easily one of the best Indian restaurants in North London, and it has since improved.
On arriving at the newly refurb'd, and thus plush, restaurant, you are greeted by the smiling staff (and there are lots of them) who are are always very friendly and welcoming. You can either sit in the bar area and have a drink listening to the regular pianist, or go straight to your table. You may need to book at the weekends, or you'll be waiting in the bar long enough to eat your own weight in free peanuts and olives.
It's the food that really makes this restaurant though. You won't find your usual predictable array of kormas, madras, jalfrezi's and tikka masala's here - this is good, interesting and varied Indian food. Opt for the chef's special sizzling dishes and flambes - the waiter lights the dishes next to your table - the flames hit the ceiling, to a slightly nervous chorus of "ooohs" by the surrounding tables. The Nil Giri Green Chicken and Murgh Chittnad are simply excellent.

I've been a regular at Kipling's since it was the Bayleaf. I've never been disappointed by the variety and scope of the menu, the friendliness of the staff, and the excellent quality and quantity of the food.
Fantastic.

Having recently visited Kipling’s we were extremely impressed on the exceptional and relaxing lounge/bar area. We were treated very well and respectively by all the staff, from being greeted by the Manager when we arrived, to the waiting staff.
What particularly appealed to us was that this was not just another typical Indian restaurant, which is reflected by their clever use of décor. The pianist was an excellent addition, the food was high-quality, the service good, and the ambience alluring, all of which made for a very enjoyable evening out, not just a cheap curry from a takeaway.
You definitely get what you pay for, and is what one would expect from a restaurant in a high class area.
We will certainly be returning, and I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Kiplings adds elegance and style to Indian cuisine. The ambience is always excellant with a live piano player and good deal of regular diners (including myslef!) on any night of the week. The tables are well-spaced out so you don't have to hear your fellow-diners conversation, this is something that is becoming very rare in London restaurants.
Above all the food is great - its so, so flavoursome and there is something on the menu to suit all tastes. The staff are also excellant, they are knowledgeable about the food and happy to talk through the menu with you.
You can't compare this gem of a restaurant with your local takeaway. It is a little more pricey but well worth it.

I have been going to Kiplings since they first opened in Highgate. There may be a few cheaper, but none come close when it comes to the quality of the food, the freindly staff and the ambience. The live music is a nice touch. I would definately book though as it does get busy.
