Kipling's

I'm also very surprised at the negative reviews of Kipling's. I live in Highgate and regularly get a takeaway from the restaurant and have always found the food top notch. I haven't had a vegetarian dish from there so I can't comment on those but the meat dishes are always superb. The quality of meat is very high and it is always tender and succulent. You always get good sized portions and great service as well.

Highly recommended.

As the person before me has commented, I too am shocked by the bad reviews - I can only imagine they are either a competitor or someone with a personal vendetta against them as I have never been to a restaurant with nicer staff and better Indian Curry! Also when you collect you get 20% discount off your bill which makes it extremely affordable. The only thing I would say is that the menu doesn't have the normal 'English' currys that you might be more familiar with. Don't let that put you off as they are more than happy to make any curry you could wish for - honestly try the lamb bhuna - as I said on my review on Tripadvisor - it's the thing dreams are made of!

I am shocked at the bad reviews of this restaurant. We live in Highgate and go to Kiplings nearly every week. We are not staff or friends of the owners as another reviewer has spitefully added. I would also like to point out that it only opens in the evenings and for Sunday lunch. The tables go right to the back and round the corner, so you cannot see from the outside how many diners are in there; this makes nonsense of the other reviewer saying it is almost empty whatever time of day she passes by. We have always found the food delicious and fresh.

We regularly take visiting friends and family members there, who specifically request going to this restaurant. Not one of our many guests has ever had anything but praise for this restaurant. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly, polite and efficient and most prices are similar to other Indian Restaurants.

I'm rather surprised by some of the terrible reviews of Kiplings on this site. A couple of friends who live in Highgate just down the road eat here all the time, and on their advice we all went for a meal together last Saturday.

The four of us were given a good table and we had beers and poppadoms in front of us within seconds. The service was friendly, the food was delicious, and we generated ample atmosphere ourselves without having to worry about that provided by others.

In terms of cost, we each spent £25 inclusive of starters, beers, and tip - I don't consider this overpriced at all, and have spent similar amounts at other Indian restaurants where the food was far more average.

We had a great night - would recommend to all.

What can I say about this place. There is'nt much to really, very uninspired food, lack of atmosphere and too expensive. I am a staunch vegetarian and was sorely dissapointed with the veggie options on the menu. Will be the last time I visit, I recommend others to avoid.

My local indian restaurant. Consistently high standards of food and service. The only negative being the mean size servings of rice.

I also live in Highgate (2 minutes walk away) and like this restaurant. The staff are friendly and pleasant and the food is good.

I live in Highgate and don't know any other locals that go to Kiplings. No matter what time of day I pass it, it's normally empty except for one or two other tables, so despite the nice upscale decor there is no atmosphere. Also the slow turnover of diners makes me worry about the freshness of the meat, fish and produce.

Highgate has other eating places that are often completely booked out. Living close to this restaurant, my guess is that the spate of rave reviews have been planted by staff and friends of the owners. If you look at previous reviews, you will find much less enthusiastic ones.

I really wish Kiplings was a great place to eat since I adore Indian food and there are no other nice restaurant-style curry places in the immediate area. If they changed their management, menu and staff, they could do very well here.

Kipling's is now under new management and what was very good before is now excellent. The food, the service, the music, the atmosphere... Kipling's is first class and catering for people who recognise 5 star quality.
