Tuesday, September 07, 2010 - Refreshingly, there's none of the tacky, acid-coloured branding you get with faux-Mexican joints, rather a cool lime paint job butched up with concrete, rough wood and metal tables. It looks good and it's affordable...There are tacos with smoky chorizo, cheese and coriander, a huge plate of nachos (why not home-made?) with good guacamole, a rich pulp of black beans and marinated, seared beef. The little carousel of sauces is excellent: limey avocado; finely chopped, fiery pico de gallo; and wonderfully hot and fragrant molcajete. Elsewhere, I'm disappointed by wussiness on the flavour.

Came for lunch with my brother and daughters. The atmosphere is OK, but the waiters are full of themselves and very slow. The place wasn't busy but we waited 15 min to even put our drinks order in. Food quality was good but overpriced. The tacos with cochinita pibil were delicious. Somehow ended up spending £70 on a pretty small lunch. Maybe that's reasonable for London? Worst thing, I had to ask for glasses of water FOUR TIMES, the last time IN SPANISH before they brought a jug of agua. Toilets smell bad. So in summary, if they sort out their service, it would be a nice place to go.

Visited Lupita for the first time with 2 friends last Friday evening. Food, drinks and service were absolutely fine (although nothing special and we discovered that quite a lot on the menu was pre-prepared although it's all supposed to be freshly made - more like freshly put together), but the toilets were thoroughly disgusting. In the ladies, 2 out of the 3 loos were blocked, with one overflowing onto the floor. I didn't even look in the 3rd one but expected the same. I was having a good time until I experienced that and will never return or recommend.

I had an awful experience last night. Came in a group of 16 people and received the worst service. Our waiter made us wait an hour for our drinks, when they did arrive only a couple of drinks were given at a time. Finally after TWO HOURS we received SOME food. Only a few dishes were given at a time so in the end we all ate at different times. It took 45 minutes for all dishes to arrive not before the waiter accused me of not knowing what i had ordered! ' i must've forgotten' he said- THE CHEEK!

Throughout the terrible service not once did our waiter apologise or give us a reason for the huge delay. instead he was rude and confrontational. The manager was understanding but I think more should have been done to help this incompetent waiter perhaps! The food was OK but i found my burrito lacking in any kind of flavour I would not recomend this restaurant nor would I ever dare set foot in there again!

I wish I could get back the 2 and half hours i wasted in there!

Took family for 4. Got in before 6.00pm. Quite an experience. We were downstairs and the smell from the mens toilets was very strong everytime the door was opened. The waiter never asked if we had been there before, just plain mechanical. Ordered starters and main meal, half way through starters the rice arrives and then the rest of the meal. Food was quite bland, even with the chilli sign on most of the order. As we asked for the bill enquired why the food was served that way, reply- We bring the food when it is ready!!!!

I was visiting a couple of friends that live in London and they mentioned that we should go to Lupita for dinner, I think the've become regular customers, but to be honest i didnt know what to expect.

We started with a couple of their premium margaritas and we were hooked on them, the taste is amazing.....our waitress explained that they are prepared with real quality tequila, and that really makes a big difference, I've never had a better margarita in my life.

About the food, we ordered many dishes as they are good to share, I let them do the ordering as they knew the menu almost inside out. We started with "chicaron de queso" (i hope thats how you spell it) and it was brilliant, crispy cheese with guacamole YUUUUMM!!

Afterwards we got a selection of tacos, quesadillas and a couple of their specialities (gringa and volcano) and it was absolutely delicious......we didnt have dessert as we had loads of food already, but i had a quick look at the "churros" the table next to us were having and they looked good, so I will definitely will get them the next time, and if they taste as the looked im sure they'll be amazing!!

I left the restaurant very pleasently surprised with the food, drinks and service.......a must if you are in London!!

Lovely evening last night - a pre theatre dinner for the family. We are ex-Californians, so used to the truly terrible tex mex you can get there! Host Kent was very helpful in getting the six of us booked in on very little notice, and even remembered our name when we turned up. Parental units were late as usual, but our server (Alejandra?) willingly advised us as to what could be prepared in the 40 minutes available (ie everything) The food was very fresh and delicious, with varying levels of spice. The Carnita Burrito was excellent, and the simple quesadillas with chorzio were perfect little starters. No idea why anyone has experienced bad service here, as we couldn't have been happier. I have also been to Wahaca (both Soho and Covent Garden), and whilst that was good as well, I prefer the personal touch we got here. Thanks

Well i don't know what people are expecting. I am Mexican and i had never tasted anything that really tasted like real mexican food and not all that rubbish at WAHACA and other food chains that say they are mexican food and they are not at all.

Sorry to disappoint you that if you go to mexico you will find the exact same food as in here.

And for me it was more than delicious. It was like really being home for the first time in years!

The only thing i would say is that is a bit expensive. 2 tacos for almost 6 pounds it is a lot. but still i am definitely going back!

The best Mexican food I have had since living in England (I am originally from Texas). I had a margarita that was delicious and some shrimp tacos that might be the best I have ever had! My waitress was very friendly and I recognized her accent as being from Mexico, which she confirmed. Every trip to London will include a stop at this restaurant from now on!!

HEINOUS....the lupita nachos arrived in a BOWL with a very large pile of bad chips and very little else...MAYBE a tablespoon of guacamole and "refried beans" and the toughest stringiest beef ever...with a dusting of cheese...my margarita tasted watered down and was served in a MARTINI glass....slopping over the sides, on to the table (blended, so very difficult to drink). Service???? equally disappointing.

Where to begin? First, my credentials: born and raised in Albuquerque New Mexico. NM has its own well known and unique variation on Mexican Food, and it is NOT Texmex, Calmex or Oklamex; and in addition offers loads of authentic Mexican Food. Lupita, while offering an authentic menu, the overall quality was very disappointing. So patchy! First the meat was very good – cooked and seasoned well. We had an Arrachera steak burrito, and Cochinita Pilbil tacos and Arrachera steak quesadillas – but there the ‘goodness’ ends. The tacos had beans (which is not mentioned on the menu), a little bit of meat and too much of really poor quality cheese – very gummy. The Burrito, good meat but not enough for the price (£7.95) and again, let down by the cheese, as were the Quesadillas – such a pity! The salsas were okay. The Tomatillo was good, the Ranchero, which should be a smoky chipotle flavour was okay but nothing to write home about. And no garnishes? Just a bit of lettuce and onion would have boosted the consistency options on the palate and certainly would make the presentation less like what you get in a hospital! Avoid the Classic Margarita at £5.50 – just weak lime juice, and cough up the £7.50 for the Premium one – much better. Service okay but refused to pay the suggested and listed rate of 12.5% and left 10% -- plenty! I would not go again unless the Mexican craving was so intense and I was limited to the immediate Charing Cross area. However, I am lucky! I have the basics shipped from home and am well known for making my own home cooked New Mexican and Mexican food.

Cheese and Biscuits

Cheese and Biscuits - 5/10

Monday, February 21, 2011 - I did, thank God, enjoy two of the dishes. Chicharron was a huge sheet of baked cheese which you break chunks off to scoop up the excellent Guacamole underneath, and was enormous fun. The salty, crispy cheese made a perfect accompanyment to the soft rich guacamole, and although you'd hope to enjoy it for 7 quid, it was - unlike most of the other courses - interesting, tasty and generous in proportion...With a (nice enough) margarita each the bill came to 46 pounds for two, and although this isn't a fortune by London standards, it is quite a lot considering we left if not hungry then not full, and hardly impressed by much of what we ate.

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

Monday, September 13, 2010 - Tacos arrived first, corn and not flour (apparently flour tacos are for heathens). The taco pastor were sweet and juicy, with a delicious mix of slow cooked pork and bacon marinated in a huge variety of ingredients, ending up in a fruity concoction. These did not last long...Coming to just over 15 quid a head for the food, it was thoroughly excellent value. I looked over to the harshest judge of them all. She had been quite muted for most of the meal but she smiled and said that she would quite happily come back again.
