The branch of S & M at the O2 on Greenwich Peninsula seems to cater mainly for masochists if the meal I had there on Saturday 12 January is anything to go by. The sausages were ordinary and boring (not the gourmet standard promised on the menu) and, like the accompanying small portion of mash, lukewarm. We were seated in the concourse immediately outside the cafe and had to eat wearing our overcoats because it was so cold. Service was pleasant and efficient. Prices for drinks are high (£3.40 for a 330ml Budvar).

Went to the Spitalfields Market one this Sunday.

We got served our drinks: undrikable so called "freshly squeezed" orange juice that strangely tasted like evil sunny delighted. Wnatde to send it back but I was met by a refusal.

Then like most of the punters, we waited 50 min ( Iam not exaggerating) to get a luke warm braekfast of dry bubble n squeak, and literally carbonized sausage and bacon. I sent it back and made it clear taht I would not pay for it...

I was was told that the restaurant could not predict how busy it would be - Sunday brunch on Market day at Spitalfileds, that's a bad joke ! - and because of this the only thing they could do is take the price of one nasty juice off my bill. A woping £1.75 discount !

I had already mixed feelings about the branch in the Angel but this experience at Spitalfields just convinced me that I will simply never go back to S&M...

I have to say I too went on Sunday, and yes it was indeed very busy but our food was lovely. You have to go with the Sunday flow our food was a little late but the resturant was really busy. The staff where under pressure but im sure working on a busy weekend is really hard . I will always reccomend S&M cafe to all!

Went for a late (birthday) breakfast here on Sunday. It was very busy, but I had been before so thought it would be fine. Could not have been more wrong. Staff were mostly surly and one at least was very scruffy/dirty. We were served our drinks OK but then waited and waited for our food. As we both ordered the all day breakfast (which most people around us were eating), this seemed to be very strange. We asked numerous times where our breakfast was, but it didn't appear. About 50 minutes later, our food arrived, but was cold. We sent it back but it was obviously just blitzed in a microwave. My boyfriend's mushroom looked like a piece of charcoal, and the lovely runny egg yolks were rock solid. By this time we were so hungry we just gave in and ate it. The food was average, but sub standard even to what you'd expect at a local 'greasy spoon'. We refused to pay full price for the meal after this experience, which was met with some resistance. All in all, a terrible meal which was much regretted as we left and wandered around the market where we saw so much delicious food on display. Disappointing.

I have enjoyed every vistit to the S and M cafe in Shoreditch! As a vegetarian I can choose from different flavour vege sausages, vege gravy, and a variety of mash. The cafe style is casual and has a retro touch so it's perfect for a fill you up before going for drinks around Brick Lane.

Shame people have found the service rude...but hey it is London afterall.

I am going tonight and taking visitors because we're all on a budget and I know they will enjoy this!!

I am a local to S&M Cafe in Spitalfields and highly recommend it. Although, when busy the service can be slow, generally it's a fantastic place to get a quick bite to eat.

Chilled atmosphere, great food and value for money - what more could you want!

Highly recommend the bubble and squeak with the pork and leak sausages.

Terrible! Do not waste your time at the cafe on Brushfield Street, do yourself a favour and go to the Pie n Mash stand in Spitalfields for a faster, better meal served with a smile.

But I digress, I have been to this cafe twice, once 2 years ago I ordered the vegetarian sausage and it came with a savoury chunk of pork in it. And I said I would never eat there again, and although I went, I never ate. You would think if you were there for an hour you would get served or at least get an answer to your repeated enquiries into your food. When we got up to leave, after asking 3 times why other tables were finishing when they arrived after us, we wer then told Oops our order never made it to the kitchen. Oops was the response from the incompetent and rude waitresses.

I don't agree

I had a brilliant breakfast in S&M There were only a few people there but the British bkfst was really good. Properly fried eggs, delicious chipolatas, baked beans, good hot toast, black pudding and the tea was hot and strong. Recommend it

Maybe they were having a bad sausage day but when we went on a Sunday lunchtime, the service was friendly but extremely slow. We waited for over an hour and when it arrived, the food really wasn't worth the wait- very tasty but meagre portions. For most of the time we were there, only a handful of people on the ground floor were actually eating- everyone else was just waiting and becoming increasingly annoyed. Avoid, unless you have plenty of time to spare and you're not particularly hungry.
