what the critics say

Andy Lynes - 3/5

Wednesday, November 03, 2010 - Although apparently specialising in food from the north, it's a Goan-style prawn balchao from the south-west of the subcontinent that's the stand-out starter. The only disappointing thing about the plump shellfish in a well-balanced sweet, sour and spicy masala is the stingy portion size...A karbahari fish curry is judged too creamy by its recipient, although the chef's wise decision to use dense, meaty halibut means the flesh hasn't overcooked in the coconut milk-rich, aromatic sauce. However, a venison bhuna is bang on the money; tender chunks of meat in a gloriously earthy, deeply flavoured marinade/sauce.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010 - Salmon cubes steeped in lemon juice, ginger, garlic, cinnamon and Kashmiri chillies were moist and sensitively spiced. Murg and mirch ka guchi to them; baby Padron peppers to you and me - stuffed with tiny cubes of chicken steeped in a herby, ground chestnut sauce - were perfectly balanced for colour, texture and taste. Butterflied prawns slicked with crunchy sesame seeds became heavenly with a dollop of a light, creamy pink fish sauce. Chunks of lamb marinaded in garam masala and slow-cooked can so often turn to mush; these richly flavoured mouthfuls retained texture and bite.

Went to this place for a special occasion on Friday night. Had to wait for 45 min for the starters which was 6 small portions of platters, which did not taste that well at all. Seems like any amount of visitors exceeding 6 tables at a time collapses this place completely. So definitely would not recommend this place for Thursday-Saturday evenings. Monday at 17'00 maybe.

The food here is exquisite every time I come. The new look of the restaurant sets a wonderful tone to the whole evening, allowing you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the great food and cocktails. A restaurant every indian-food lover must go to!

Me & my colleagues go out together and always pick on a restaurant, The other night we picked Thali (advised from friends) and what a cracking choice it was. Clean and warm inside, really friendly staff and the most amazing Indian I've had. The choice was phenomenal, you really are spoilt for choice with so many dishes to choose from. Everything is fairly priced on the menu.

Excellent restuarant. The service was grand and the food was outstanding. You must try the roasted paalak chaat! I have been to Thali for the first time both for drinks and food and it was great. The drinks are all reasonably priced and I find their coffees are good, especially the masaala tea! Overall good value and good quality.
