Saturday, February 19, 2011 - The decor is faux-rustic, possibly ordered from the Baileys mail-order catalogue. The menu is unadventurous French cuisine...The main courses arrived with dizzying speed. Madeleine was enthusing about its pan-fried, lightly seared, charcoaled fishiness, how well it balanced the fennel, all of it soothed by a green pea sauce. My free-range pork chop was delicious, bonding with the soft chunks of lightly-cooked apple like Julie Andrews encountering the junior von Trapps. In spite of my earlier sneers about the decor and clientele, Aubaine was working out well.

Visited this restaurant today and found the experience a little disappointing. We were greeted on arrival and taken over to the table. However, it took a further 10 minutes to be approached by our waitress to take a drinks order. We asked the server to recommend some wine and were a little surprised that she delivered a different wine to the one she recommended. The capriccio we ordered was really tasty and the portion was generous. We wanted something light for our main and opted for a lobster salad. The dish was beautifully presented, though we found it to be quite expensive, considering the size. The lobster spaghetti was undercooked and we found the lobster to be chewy. We were offered a selection of desserts, which looked really tasty. We tried the Millie filly and the raspberry tart and were not disappointed. The coffee was lovely and prepared with care. We particularly liked the fact that the ketchup and mayo were presented in small jars and there were individual cane sugar cubes served with the coffee. Unfortunately, the facilities were really dirty. All cubicles had dirty footprints and the toilet bowls had some unsightly marks. The restaurant was really popular and though we did not dislike it, there were some things that needed improvement.

Yesterday I went to Aubaine in High Street Kensington and had a lovely meal.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxing and the food was really good.

I thought that the main courses arrived a bit too quickly after our starters were cleared but we were hungry and did not really mind.

I never write reviews or bother to do these things but I had such a terrible experience that I was compelled to write this review. The food was terrible I ordered a seabas fillet as a main course. It was completely full of bones and unedible half of the meal being salt ! I felt like I was drinking dead sea water. The fish was completely over cooked and dry. I call a waitress and show her the large bones and the uneaten terrible food. She is very nice and understanding and immediately says that I will not be charged for the fish. I order the bill and it is stil there. I call the manager who is Italian and he confidently explains to me that fillet does not mean that the bones are taken out at all with a straight face and the fish comes like that there is nothing they can do about it. He says that the waitress is new and she does not know what she is talking about and that they cannot take the food off my bill, even though I have lived next to the restaurant for 6 years and have seen that waitress there for a very long time. I called over the waitress and told her she should be the manager because she understands service & people better than he does and asked her how long she worked there... he offered me a cup of coffee as an apology. I told him no thank you.

In summary worst restaurant in central london. Avoid like the plague, Shocking.
