Maybe we hit this restaurant on an off-night but having eaten there twice before over the last 12 months I was expecting a great evening. The food was excellent although the size of the sea bass portions were on the mean side. Does it make that much difference to the cost base to add an extra few ounces and as for having to order the dessert at the same time as ordering the other coursesor else wait half an hour, well come on how many other restaurants make this demand except for souffles ?
However the service was dreadful. Unfortunately one of our party was pretty stressed to start with which didn't help but the attitude of the waiting staff was something else. The restaurant was less than half full but the second course took an age, did they somehow lose the order or were they still catching the fish fresh ?
I certainly did not experience these problems on my previous visits and maybe the level of occupancy should have been a warning that others experienced a problem. But the overall feeling was one of those London restaurants which, having arrived with a real bang, starts to take itself so seriously that it forgets the object of the exercise-making the whole evening a pleasurable experience. Sorry to be so negative

What an experience! I went to Morgan M with my boyfriend for a birthday celebration and had perhaps the best food I have ever had the privilege of eating. Our expectations were high, but were undoubtedly surpassed on almost every level.
Particular highlights included a fabulous watercress soup with a poelee of frogs legs, squab pigeon, and a tastebud tingling champagne rhubarb tart. Every course was imaginative and perfectly executed with French flair. We chose a £30 bottle of wine, but spent the meal slightly worried because we were convinced that they must have brought us an £800 bottle by mistake (they hadn't).
Service was impeccable and discreet, with real attention to detail.
I might mention that my boyfriend, a very talented cook - and definitely not prone to outbursts of emotion - was on occasion moved almost to tears by the quality of the food.
I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Fantastic!

I was recommended to this restaurant by a friend and then i checked out their website and thought the menu was very intresting. so i decided to go with 2 of my chef friends and went yesterday for lunch.
firstly we booked for 3 at 12pm and then they said if they could make it 12.30 but i could not but when we arrived the entrance door was shut at 12.10 and we were the first customers in. when someone called to confirm the table, they mentioned 2 people, then when i called back they still said 2 people when clearly i booked for 3. despite telling them 3 when we arrived they thought we were still 2 people. seems theres not so much communication going on.
However starting with the meal, we decided to get the late winter tasting menu and the wine tasting to go with that.
I was very pleased with the shellfish cannonoli and lobster froth, i thought it was very fine and flavoursome. Then we had a turbot on black truffle risotto which was excellent, no faults to noted.
Then came the main course which i thought was not up to scratch meaning the sweetbreads were hard and dry and the braised red cabbage was a bit too bitter and the chestnuts were very dry and hard.
the Dessert was ok, i had the souffle and thought that there was too much egg whites used and thats all i tasted as it held very well. the fondant was excellent but there was some very hard sticky substance on the plates.
All in all the food was very good and extemely well presented, the wines to accompany the meal were a good choice, except from one glass being chipped.
The room was very quiet and all you can hear is the clanging of the plates from the downstairs kitchen, i reckon they should put very low relaxing music.
Finally the chef came to see us and just said if it was good and left which i thought was a bit of a disappointment as we were chef students and were really interested in his cooking and we also wanted just our menus signed by him and could only be bothered to sign one of them which i thought was a bit of carelessness (it's just a signature!)
All in all, i thought it was excellent throughout and will most probbably return.
definetly recommended for value.

I have been fortunate to have dined at Morgan M a couple of times and have always found it consistently excellent, in terms of food, service and value for money.
I'm amazed that one reviewer said that the prices were on par with Nobu or Locando Locatelli this is preposterous I have eaten at both of them and have
never seen a seven course menu for £35-40
I also take offence to those that take a pop at Morgan for striving for a Michelin star. So what if he is, maybe he is just endevouring to rise above the mediocre fare served in most of Islington's other restaurant.
Morgan M for me is a diamond in an otherwise gastronomic wilderness, he should be applauded for his excellent endevours.

Morgan M has to be one of the best restaurants in London at the moment. Yes, the food is french but I have to disagree with another reviewer, it is by no means old school french. It appears to me, on each visit, to be rather modern and is always truly delicious. And very reasonably priced.
How anyone can complain about the cost of a meal there is just beyond me. They need to get out more.

food was very very good but very old school french. The tasting menu seemed hopelessly ill judged. I was full by the third rich course and I have huge appetite (and experience of eating lots more than 5 courses). The service is also very stilted with lots of addressing the ladies first and enforced formality. We asked for tap water and got a sneer, with the waiter bring bottled to start with. thye also rattled through the courses until we told them to slow down, as we were overfaced and had half drunk glasses of wine everywhere.
The price of seventy pounds with wine is about 10 - 15 overpriced in my opinion. This is getting on to the price you'll pay for a night at Nobu or Loccanda Locatelli.
I also agree with the previous review that they seem to be too preoccupied with getting the Michelin star rather than their guests enjoyment. Thankfully we didn't get the chef walking the tables.
