Fantastic food, great service, a bit an the old side regarding the cliente (I'm 33!), but we couldn't care less as the food was really the highlight of the show.
And it was very nice of the chef, Morgan, to come and greet us at the end of the diner.
All in all, top experience, best restaurant in Islington by a mile.

I ate here on Friday evening with my girlfriend and we were both blown away by both the food and the service. We decided on the Christmas taster menu which was an absolute delight. The crayfish starter, the sea bass, venison...nothing could be faulted. I have eaten in many on the so called top restaurants around and can honestly say that the food served at Morgan M is without doubt some of the best I have had. If I had to do one thing differently again, it would maybe not choose the wines to go with each course. Not because they were bad choices - quite the opposite - it's just that we felt quite tiddly at the end! Didn't help we'd had a Kir Royale to start and a glass of wine at the pub up the road before too!!
All in all a fantastic experience and one that we will definitely be repeating.

We went to Morgan M for the first time for dinner last Saturday evening. We are pleased that we had not read the negative reviews posted on this site before booking and that we did not cancel our booking out of fear ! We opted for the three course meal rather than the tasting menu (though we were tempted by the veg.tasting menu which looked good as we are not meat eaters) . Contrary to other reviews which we wonder may be very out of date, the service was charming from when we entered to leaving. We had a leisurely but well paced meal. There was never a time when we were drumming our fingers waiting but nor were we ever too hurried. The food was full of flavours and beautifully served. For me the highlight was the most impeccable dessert souffle I have ever eaten-apple and lime served with Granny Smith sorbet. By the way I don't recognise the toilets from your earlier review either- I think they must have been redone. They are very nice with proper individual towels and L'Occitane toiletries.

We visited Morgan M for the first time last Friday. We opted for it as it was relatively local. My wife and I both went for the taster menu with a glass of wine to complement each course. The food was pretty good, although not of the same standard as other French restaurants in central London (Club Gascon for example) that do a taster menu for a similar price, and where the service is infinitely better. Having read the other reviews, I have to report that the service has obviously not improved here. The waiter/waitress always seemed to be in a rush - you didn't feel you had any time to discuss the menu, and when courses arrived they quickly dashed off somewhere else. On a number of occassions we had to wait a long time between courses. The 'set' courses on the taster menu would arrive quickly, but the ones you selected yourself took ages. The wine was generally introduced with each course, although very rushed, and on one occasion the wine was just put on the table, and I had to ask. The lay-out of the restaurant is not ideal either. Tables for two are very close together. We were sitting near the stairs to toilets/kitchens. There was a constant clattering of waiters tearing up and down the stairs from the kitchens. The cheese table seems to reside just beside the entrance to the stairs and the strong smell of it is quite over-powering if you are stting nearby. The chef did appear and chat to diners which I think is a nice detail, but over-all this restaurant is over-priced and disappointing.

Totally agree, what a huge disappointment. My husband & I were very unhappy with our meals. We found the service to be terrible...slap stick at best.....Sommeliers who cant remember the names of the grapes! Not good. There were no special tasting-menu moments and our friends were hugely disappointed. Very sad. We used to love Morgan M.

Went back after a gap of a year or so and was very disappointed. The service which was never a strong suit here has gone down hill. Curt, unfriendly even and too rapid except when you need something and then theres no one there. The food which used to be wonderful is good at best. MY snail ravioli was dull when once it had been sublime, my duck was fine but very little depth and came luke warm. My wife fared a little better with a rich pumpkin soup and excellent turbot. We won't be returning to a restaurant which i used to count as the best in Islington

One of the smarter restaurants in Islington. Went again last night for maybe the third time, and again came away feeling slightly disappointed. As tasting menus go, it's not that expensive and the food is pretty good. But it doesn't blow your socks off. And the service was, yet again, poor. They really need to improve here. The decor is starting to look a bit tired - it could do with a lick of paint, and the toilet seat was hanging off in the ladies toilet.

My last - in both senses of the word - visit to Morgan M was terrible .
Food Ok but not amazing - portions tiny - and wines good .
Service truly abysmal. One of our party had to ask five times for a glass of water . We had been there one hour fifty before the main course arrived and by that time I had made at least three observations on sevice to the staff . By the end we were begging for them to bring the main course which after all that was underwhelming . Wine was not topped up despite repeated requests .
All in all a wretched evening for which I felt obliged to apologise to my guests- we take it in turns to suggest places and after my previous visits I was confident they would like Morgan M. They didnt .
On previous evenings there M M had always come out for a chat but not this time . Either he wasn't there or he sensed the unrest in the dining room !
On leaving , I mentioned all this to the maitre d'. He said they had been having problems.

I ate at Morgan M last Saturday for the 6th or 7th time, and was pleased to find the atmosphere had improved. In its elaborate way, the food has always been excellent , seasonal, delicious, well-presented and pretty reasonable value for cooking at this level. What always niggled was the fact that the restaurant seemed to try far too hard - the house style of staff announcing every ingredient and taste on each diner's plate rendered me murderous in a lengthy taster menu, and positively psychotic on the occasion when I was foolish enough to order the recommended wine with each course. I tended to avoid going there more than twice a year, because there is only so much of that sort of thing that a no-nonsense foodie can stand.
But it seems that Monsieur M is at least starting to get the message. Staff on Saturday were warm, pleasantly low-key, informative without being in your face. No food description assaulted the ears, except to explain unordered extras. The restaurant seemed more relaxed as a result, and it was possible to enjoy the food and some conversation without the interruption of frequent clarion calls from the waiter. The food was flawless for a cold evening: wintry, gamey, satisfying....
But, we aren't quite out of the woods: I confess that I would prefer it if M. M kept himself more in the kitchen, and less in the restaurant at the end of an evening. If he did, wild horses wouldn't keep me away from coming here often. As things stand, I doubt I am alone in feeling some dread of his rather formulaic table visits on every visit. Does a man who doesn't trust diners with their own salt and pepper really take note of what they think about his food? I doubt it, really. And I do happen to like this cooking, but if I didn't, I would never risk the unpleasantness of telling the chef that I had just wasted £150+. Pretending to canvass my opinion is a rather pointless exercise of inviting me to interrupt an otherwise delightful evening with a bland and not particularly honest verbal exchange.
More food, less talk works fine with me.
