our review
Brothers Tim and Nick Cockburn, owners of The Prince Albert in Camden, have opened their second gastropub - The Adam and Eve in Mill Hill. The modern British menu uses ingredients sourced from producers in the UK and changes monthly. Dishes might include confit Gressingham duck leg; homemade pies; whole roasted sea bream; and potted Morecambe Bay shrimp.

"Pint of Wainwrights and a pint of Fosters(?) please" (Me)
"Sorry?" (Barman)
"Pint of Wainwrights and a pint of Fosters(?) please"
"Which ones the Wainwrights"
I point to the tap with Wainwright written on it and continue in conversation with my companion.
"Here's the lager; I'm waiting for the Wainwrights to settle"
"Thank you" (I pay for the two pints. Ouch!)
Three or four more minutes of conversation between myself and my companion.
"Excuse me could I have my pint please" (To a young lady behind the bar)
"I don't work behind the bar" (says she passing through from one side to the other) "The barman will be back in a minute" (as she disappears around the corner)
Barman returns in conversation with another member of staff.
"I'm sorry to intrude but can I have my pint please"
"Sorry? You want another pint?"
"No I want the one from last time that's still sitting there" (I point to the deflated pint pot sitting under the tap)
"Oh - I forgot all about that! I'm new here"
"Quite. The names not Manuel by any chance?"
"Sorry?"
"The answers "que" I beleive"
"Sorry?
"Never mind"
This pint didn't taste to good either. I had two cases delivered at Christmas and this was a poor second to the bottled stuff. I think it's been kept too long. There were not many people in the pub and there are five taps. I don't beleive they can turn them over in peak condition. Perhaps others are luckier with their timing.
Asked for the menu for upstairs but it was as uninspiring as the last time we ate here and I didn't fancy taking a chance. Had a look into the Pizza restaurant(??). Sorry, this resembles a working canteen from the 1970's and it was empty. I really don't see who this pub appeals to. Drinkers? Diners? Neither from my experiences. Seems no improvement in cooking skills either looking at the other reviews.
Went off to book a cheap week in Spain where the young people at least have some command of the English language! OLE! ;-)

Ate here for the second time this afternoon. Should have listened to my gut instinct and avoided giving them a second try (first visit was awful!) The service in this establishment is unbelievably poor! Coming from a hospitality background myself, I was horrified by the inattentive staff...it took the very "laid back" waitress 30 mins to take our order. In between times this same waitress was hanging out by the bar talking in a very non-positive way about other members of staff (not at all becoming!) When the food finally arrived it was luke warm and ultimately tasteless...the wine was good and the mackerel starter passable but on the whole, a truly disappointing dining experience. I will follow my better judgement next time.

I have been following The Adam & Eve on twitter for a couple of years now, from before their re-opening, yet had never managed to go there (despite living about a mile away).
How have I waited this long? Immediately, I love the place. They have a small, but decent, selection of real ales, they have a well-selected wine list, they have a splendid selection of spirits, and they even offer a few cocktails.
On a Saturday night, I was initially surprised not to find the place heaving, but then realised that most people were sitting down for food, the table turnover wasn't very fast (which is a good sign) and the attention from the staff is superb (not that I doubt they could cope with it being much busier, I am certain they could). There was even a party going on in the function room upstairs, but this did not detract from the slick running of the pub, nor did it disturb those of us downstairs.
After a few drinks, the two of us had a burger each, which was cooked how we requested it, served with some delicious chips and a perfect little side-salad. Other meals that we saw wandering past all looked superb as well.
I will be going back, and soon.

I have been here now a few times, since I work across the road and we take visitors here for a meal and a drink. Although the food is nice and tasty, they are just serving midget portions for full price. Seriously, I do not need to stuff my face, but when I order a sea trout I think I am rightfully disappointed when I get a piece of fish smaller than my Oyster card, which does not last more than 3-4 bites, accompanied with 2.5 baby potatoes and 12 peas and that's it. On a previous occasion we had to order some sides midway through the dinner because we did not want to leave the table still being hungry, and that is after having had a starter. A bit embarrassing if you ask me.

Wonderful venue and the food was served in good time and was excellent. The upstairs resturant was full when we went so had to eat downstairs. The garden was open and as it was a sunny day was quite full. I would recommend anyone to try this place.

First ate in here several weeks ago as it is local to me. Was apprehensive after reading the reviews here but am very happy that I wen (and have been several times since both in the week and at weekends). The Sunday Roasts are excellent and pretty decent value at £18 for 2 courses. The staff have never been anything other than helpful and friendly. The seating in the pub is comfortable and the garden (when sunny) is fantastic. The most refreshing thing is the fact that they are trying to attract people with special nights, like the film night. I have even been to a BBQ there where there was free face painting for the kids. Any parent is happy being able to relax in a pub while the kids are being entertained.

My main regret is not reading these reviews before trying this pub, although being the only table in the restaurant on a Sunday evening should have sent the alarm bells ringing. Do not be fooled by the pictures online. The menu and presentation of the food is nothing like the pictures. We tried the squid as a starter and can honestly say I have never tasted something so tasteless and bland as well as being served luke warm. We sent it back and did not bother trying another starter. The complimentary bread was cheap, white bread with butter that was rock hard, impossible to spread. There were no side plates either, which made the job of smearing the butter even trickier. The lamb main course was really average to say the least, with some sections requiring a chain saw to hack through it. Another member of our party tried the steak burger, which requried 3 attempts to get it right. The first time it was burnt to a cinder. The second time it looked great on the outside, but was cold and pink on the inside and the third time it was just about edible. Skipped desserts and really couldnt wait to get out of there. Evening ruined.

I have to review the Adam and Eve again as my mark for food was taken on trust from some people who have eaten here and what I had eaten free of charge on their official opening night, which was excellent. I have now eaten here. This was a mistake. It was also an expensive mistake! Some friends booked and invited us along.
Firstly the menu is not the same as the menu on line. Whilst I accept dishes do and should change according to produce availability and for the purposes of offering something fresh, can you get any different to this offering? Please look at the a la carte menu on line and see above main review mentioning Gressingham duck etc. The main courses were: Steak and chips, Chicken and chips, Sausage and chips, Haddock and chips, Sea bass, Lemon Sole and blue cheese salad. So, if you don't fancy fish or salad what do you have the choice of? Steak and chips, Chicken and chips or Sausage and chips in whatever flowery language you dress this up in! How very culinary! The menu was on a piece of paper six inches by 4 inches approximately, clipped to a piece of (I think) cardboard. If your eyesight is on the blink take your own magnifying glass as one is not provided. We asked was this the only menu and they said yes as it changes from day to day! With these delectable offerings it would need to!!
So to the steak that was ordered rare. This was served with chips (skin on) half a tomato and one field mushroom. The mushroom was either steamed, boiled or microwaved and was pouring juice all over the plate. The tomato had said hello to the grill but unfortunately not stayed for too long! The chips were very over cooked (burnt) in oil that was clearly tainted from some other food. Now for the steak itself. The essence of a good steak rare or otherwise is to buy it well cut it properly and to cook it correctly!!! This offensive lump of badly cut meat had been placed under a salamder/grill (or possibly on a skillet) that was not hot enough thus resulting in a steak that was not properly sealed and then had been laid to rest (IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN) in such a position that it was steamed. No steak knife was provided. So I asked for one. "We do not have steak knives as the steak melts in the mouth" was the swift reply. They clearly didn't understand that getting it to the mouth is the first requirement before it can be allowed to melt and melt it should have been allowed to do because it had most certainly gone through every other possible process since arriving in this pubs kitchen and before being unceremoniously dumped in front of me! This might sound harsh but this pubs web site needs to be read to understand that expectations would be naturally high when eating here. Also bear in mind that this steak was well over £20.00.
The entire cost for four people for the night (with only two starters and no dessert, as none of us could handle it by then) £120.00 to include a bottle of house red and four other drinks. Add to this another £30.00 for two rounds of drinks downstairs and all in all this is one expensive night in a pub! There is a clear lack of supervision at all levels. Or to put it another way there is no management. My companion, for example, was sitting in the restaurant and in front of her was a bucket a mop and some cleaning rags. This is such a fundamental mistake!
If there is something positive to say it would be that the staff in the restaurant battled on bravely but they were eventually overwhelmed by the enemy within - the chef and the management team! Why, then are there so many people prepared to eat in places such as this? Because Mill Hill now does have a customer that has plenty of money and will eat in a place providing it is expensive. That particular type of customer has no idea of how food should be cooked or served or how it should taste. An open can of baked beans described as "Scatola di fagioli al forno servita con coperchio" with a £20.00 price tag would probably sell well here. I know this sounds snobbish but it is the main reason why so many of these expensive sub standard places are opening in this area. It is possible to eat far better at far less a cost quite locally and to have better trained staff to attend you and in a friendlier environment. I have given three for service because at least the young girls kept smiling. Sorry it's this bad but we all felt cheated. No chance of a return this place for us. I was thinking of sending a copy of this review to manger/owner but looking at the post below, quite frankly, I have better things to do with my time.

Visited the restaurant in December with my son, food was OK but very pricey for what we had, atmosphere very cold.
Booked again however for 16th April with my husband. I had to ring on the day to check that they had my booking, feel that a good class restaurant would have this set up, by phone or e-mail. Booking confirmed we looked forward to nice evening,as this place is within walking distance. On attending our table was pointed out to us in a very disinterested manner, right in front of the bar. On asking if we could not be upstairs in the restaurant I was then advised that we could not do this as they had a private function on. At this point we advised that we were not happy to accept this table and left the establishment with no meal. I have now e mailed twice, posted and hand delivered a complaint letter asking why I was not advised of this when booking and calling on the day. Still NO REPLY. What a shame, we were so hopefully of a good eatery in this area at last, seems that customer service counts for nothing, and it is all about the income. At the very least an apology might have gone a long way.

No atmosphere. A mistake to not have seperate bars especially if you are going to have quiz evenings. Over enthusiastic person wandering around the pub shouting into a microphone when I was there. Very annoying!! This seems more or less standard on Monday/Tuesday nights in a lot of pubs now, particularly amongst the "chains" (which this isn't). I could only count two tables playing! Maybe a bad night ..... or two tables more than normal nights when there is no quiz! Food's too expensive so's the beer of which they had several on my visit. There are no surprises amongst the real ales either. The Sharpes however was in fairly decent condition. Not sure what the place is supposed to be - Pub? Restaurant? It's large and open planned and seems to be overstaffed as well as overpriced. There is a possiblity here but it desperately needs an injection of character and a reduction of price (particularly to turn over that many ales) and being split into two bars. The car park, however, is stuffed with 4x4's, porches and top of the range Beemers (all upstairs in the restaurant?) so maybe they make a shed load of money out of fewer people! Or maybe the multitude of staff own the cars :-). Can't see this getting a regulars crowd in it's current format unless people like their own company a lot!
