The Well

I've been looking for a venue to hold my birthday party on a bank holiday Sunday and was very fortunate to find The Well.

I had been there before for a book launch, but that was a long time ago. Even then, I remember the beautiful fish tanks made an impression on me.

I've managed to book the party with no problems, staff were really friendly, the venue was excellent, inexpensive, all in all probably the best deal out there.

I had the best birthday party so far (plenty more to come, I hope), so a big thank you to the people of The Well.

Highly recommended.

PS - Although I didn't have any, the food looked superb too!

An interesting place with 2 completely different looks downstairs and upstairs: modern pub upstairs and cocktail lounge downstairs. Good selection of beer on draught as well as a more than adequate wine list. The service was unhurried and attentive and the food did not disappoint, the mutton being particularly good.

I visited The Well for lunch on Sunday with a friend I haven't seen in a long time, and we found it to be absolutely spot on for what we wanted. Most tables were taken providing a good buzzy atmosphere (quite surprising for such a wet, miserable Sunday), but tables are sufficiently spaced apart so that there is no need to shout above the noise.

The service was excellent - an extremely friendly waitress who was present whenever we turned around to catch her eye but didn't interupt us if we were chatting.

The wine list is reasonably small but clearly made up of carefully selected wines rather than a long list of the bog standard bottles you see all over London. We both loved the wines we chose.

Last but not least, the food - it being a Sunday, we both had a roast (at least 2 if not 3 roasts were available, as well as a very tempting seasonal menu....). I had the pork belly and my friend, the beef. Both were cooked the perfection (crispy crackling on the pork belly and tender pink beef) and were served with roast potatoes, creamy potato mash (which lead to the ONLY criticism of the whole day - it is a little overly creamy) and a yorkshire pudding filled with seasonal veg. Both apple sauce and horseradish sauce were put on the table without being reqested. We both felt the roast was excellent value at £12.50.

Although completely stuffed, we both managed to fit in an amazing chocolate fondant for dessert (chosen from a list of 5 or 6 equally tempting desserts and a cheese board....).

All in all, we had a brilliant afternoon and stayed far longer than we'd planned. I will most definitely be back.

If you are a big Sunday roast eater than you'd better try The Well's roast. Great taste accompanied by a friendly service and great atmosphere!! I'll be back!!

I booked a table at The Well on Saturday night for 2 of the girls for my sisters hen weekend. The organisation before the event was fantastic, thanks to Nadia. We preordered and the menu was good, I asked for it to be changed sightly and this was done without a fuss. I wanted to drop off some 'favours' for the table before the event and was able to do this two weeks in advace. When we arrived at the restaurant, the table was set out with the favours an looked lovely. The manager was attentive and made the evening feel like a special dinner party meal with no washing up!! The restaurant allowed us to play Mr and Mrs and accomodted any requests for more wine, food etc. without any fuss. The food was tasty, the wine was plentiful and the service excellent. I would definitely recommend and if I was in Clerkenell again I would go back. Thank you to everyone involved.

I was there on Sunday on the strength of the excellent reviews and had the mutton which was the most delicious meal so far this year! The Brazilian waitress was simply charming and knew the wine list very well. Highly recommend this little gem.

I met some friends for the first time at the Well last night and was really impressed. The food was delicious, and the staff were all so efficient and friendly. I also had a snoop downstairs and I'll definitely be organising a party there, what a brilliant room! I look forward to my next visit.

Had my birthday party in the downstairs cocktail lounge last week and I must say everything was perfect. We were looked after by friendly bar & floor staff and the platter food was simply yummy. Everyone commented on how great the venue is. Will definitely go for dinner in the upstairs pub as it was buzzing with atmosphere.

Went to the Well last night on the strength of their reviews and I must say that they didn't dissapoint. My steak was cooked to perfection and my boyfriend had the duck breast with black pudding. Service was very friendly and efficient. Would visit again and highly recommend it.
