I went there last night with my wife and a couple of friends. The place is opulent but in a nouveau riche fashion and as if it is trying too hard rather than with any sort of class.

But it gets far far worse. The food was appaling. We went there on the £25 offer and it almost seemed like they were dishing out rubbish for that offer. The salad for starters was poor. The main was bland and unimpressive and desert was pretty much out of a supermarket box.

The service though was very good, attentive without being invasive.

I'd give this place a pass.

Went to 1880s the other day with a few friends on a £25 dinner deal. The experience was overall very disappointing. The restaurant was completely empty and bad pop music distroyed the overall quite grand ambience.

Food wise also very disappointing - I had salad and risotto to start with. it was nothing special at all, a few green leaves, a couple of pale tomatoes and three unloving slices of cucumber.

For mains, I chose the sea bass, which came with fennel and lentils. the fennel was completely oversalted and the fish looked like it had sat in the kitchen for hours. I am told the risotto was diappointingly bland.

Service was attentative but at times over-bearing, for example when the waiter kept asking us what we wanted for dessert when we had only just started our mains.

All in all not a place I would come back to.

Last week me and my wife went to your restaurant,And when I arrived I was shocked because it had magnificent decor. I felt like I'm in a palace. The waitier came and introduces himself to serve us and give us the menu ,It was welcoming .We ordered loin of english lamb and grilled angus sirlion. when we had the food it was done as we like it ,delicious, generous and excellent.later we asked for the bill. The price was reasonable and we leave a good tip.and they saie good bye with lovely smile.

Made a booking based on the special offer and all the excellent reviews, but was ultimately disappointed. Went on a Saturday night and both the hotel and restaurant were ghostly quiet. The hotel is beautiful but the lighting in the restaurant made for a very gloomy room and no atmosphere. The quality of the ingredients of the grazing dishes were

high, and were well presented, but somehow the overall experience of the combination of dishes was disappointingly average. This could be a wonderful venue to take guests, but based on this one visit I doubt I'll be back.

visited on the strength of previous reviews and was disappointed with the grazing menu.Nothing exceptional with three cold first courses. I would not reecommed this restaurant it is very overpriced even with the 50% offer.

my third visit and was disappointed to learn that the head chef Sharon Robinson had moved on. Food and service were ok, but had been much better on my previous visits.

Food was average for a restaurant of this reputed calibre and only worth it in conjunction with the offer. Staff were excellent, but then I choose restaurants based on the staff. The place was near empty and totally lacking in atmosphere. I wish I had visited when the last chef was here. Won't be returning unless on a tight budget.

My sister and I dined here and had a really memorable meal.

The staff were fantastic, really attentive and engaging, but never overbearing.

The food was a joy. Each course was really beautifully presented, each a taste discovery of it's own. Like a prcession of culinary gifts, to be experienced and discovered.

Favourites were the perfect cheeseboard, and the foie gras.

The wine list is extensive and the quality superb.

I won't forget the lovely meal we had, and what a special experience it was.
