I went to SE10 a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night for a quiet romantic birthday meal with my boyfriend. We hadn't heard of the place before but had found it on a website we trusted and it had good reviews. We had a quick look at the menu online and thought it sounded quite creative and tasty and so decided to give it a go. When we arrived there we weren't quite sure ,as it is in the middle of an estate but don't let this put you off (even though its not a big issue anyway) as when you get inside its like a little haven away from the world, especially form how busy London can be! It was very quaint with only a few tables and tasteful decor. The staff were really friendly and made you feel really important without being intrusive.
The food was a real delight - it was all cooked from scratch with good quality ingredients - we both felt it was the best meal out we had had in a long time. I had a leek and cheese potato cake with a portabello mushroom and a creamy herb sauce and my boyfriend had chicken in a wild mushroom sauce with asparagus and broad beans. Both were melt in the mouth and fantastic sized portions. I was being a bit of a gastro geek and wanted to know what my sauce was made of and the chef came out and spoke to me personally - ok its quite a small place and it wasn't that busy, but it still meant a lot. We finished off the meal with the best pudding ever - if you're a chocoholic that is - chocolate orange brownie with home made vanilla and white chocolate ice cream. It was all perfect - we honestly couldn't fault it.
The only down side (at least it may have been for some people but not for us) was that there werent' many people there. This didn't affect the atmosphere but I hope this little secret paradise will survive the difficult economic climate right now. I would highly recommened this place for a decent honest local experience and a feeling that you are making a small difference to the monopoly that chain restaurants often have on the high street. This place was just what I expected and more from a sophisticated area like Greenwich.
